Suckers? Really? Im stuck in steps and I realize the county and the job is screwing us but lets not depress the new people right away. Its still an amazing schedule and being a former city cop I wouldn't blame anyone for not taking that job, that CITY is a cesspool.

They have been told they are going to get three steps to keep them on the job. Imagine when the find out that's not true you will have just added 30 more guys to the disgruntled list.

They will find out very soon as in tomorrow they are due their 1st step increase. They will very soon be regretting taking this job. I'm in steps & can only keep up for a few more months till I prob lose my house. I don't understand how anyone in the city would transfer here being stuck at 34k. And as far as city being a cesspool, I guess it depends where u worked & if u were a zero. I happened to like it there very much & it was a career. A lot of places to go & get promoted. Not like that here. I've lost a ton & I'm on my 3rd loan. Yes schedule is good but that doesn't pay the bills.

Yeah your right we shouldn't depress them right away, maybe this January 1st when they get their next step (haha) or next Jan when they get the step after. All I can hope is that none of the 27 were actually making any money prior, and this is their first real job. At least then they won't know any better. Enjoy living in a basement apartment for the next how many years.

They wont find out about anything until June or July of 2014. They're contract is a bit different from ours. They didn't start at 23K. They start at 34K but they get they're raises every year. (or at least that's what they were told)

Im stuck in steps and pissed but can we not be miserable for at least one moment. Remember back to how excited you were when you graduated? The whole freeze really sucks but this is still a great job. I used to really work for a living before this and i am very thankful for what I have. This is supposed to be a happy moment. Congrats to all the graduates best of luck in your careers and stay safe out there.

With all due respect to a fellow cop, lionsden post is exactly what is hurting us guys struggling in steps. There is not enough outrage from guys stuck in steps. That's great that he thinks this is a great job & he was excited when he graduated. But for me I've had nothing but heartache with this job. Doesn't even make sense to go through another academy but that's another story. Upon graduating, I developed an illness from wrkg at ground zero during 9/11. I was told by our PBA that I'm out of luck bc I was wrkg on the "big job" and that I will have to use my own sick time and am not covered at all by this job. Then my job was threatened by possible layoffs (which was a lot closer than most people think). And then of course the big NIFA freeze in which when I transferred here I had never heard of NIFA. I have a family of four to feed & mortgage payments in which most people on our job making a ton of money could care less bout. The job has not done anything for guys in steps. And I don't feel bad for these guys that just graduated bc at least they knew what they were getting themselves into it...At the very least there should have been a separate lawsuit for guys in steps instead of being lumped in with the top pay guys and the wage freeze. This is not a wage freeze for us. It's a contractual step. Even when the federal govt froze their workers, people in steps still were allowed to go through all their steps.

27 in 5 years? I remember when there were 2-3 classes of 100 each every year for 3-4 years in a row. back in the late 50's.Even the serial numbers of new guys were in the mid 2 thousands… Wish the new LEO's the best and hope it gets better for them….. I remember the same thing 60's into the 70's. They had a regular production line going until the discrimiation lawsuits started. Good Luck to all the new graduates.

(or at least that's what they were told) Tired of hearing from senior members about how the starting pay for them was 23,000. Except for a few classes hired in 2004, 2005 that was in the 1990s. The 1990s - When the average cost of gasoline was $1.35/gal, milk was $2.78/gal. The average home on Long Island in 1995 was $155,000. How many years was it till top pay when you got on? What was the top pay rate of a Nassau cop in the late 1990's in ratio to there cost of living? The average cop in steps is making $79,000 while carrying a mortgage in the $400,000's range, the inflation of all goods is four times as much and we are frozen at a rate of pay equivalent to what your top pay was in the late 1990s. I'm not looking to take anything away from all the givebacks and sacrifices every member on this job has been through. The senior members have earned and deserve all that is rightfully given to them as compensation for being on the job. So please don't try to be empathetic with a statement like starting pay was $23,000. It is at its best a failed attempt to be sympathetic. So please stop.

I'm not trying to sound empathetic. I'm in steps too. Just saying that some of the cops on here were under the impression that they were due to get a raise after the academy. Some are unaware tha the contratct has changed. Take a breath will ya

The people responsible for this debacle want us all to fight amongst each other, no matter what class you were hired in, 1% or 4%er. They want us to blame the PBA, the economy, the tooth fairy and Santa Claus. The GOP wants the middle class to blame the unions and any sort of organized labor making a livable wage in this country. Greedy politicians and other parasites are the people we should all be aiming our frustration at. Ed Mangano wanted to break us and all the unions in general, don't be misled. No matter what political party he or the legislature are representing are all thieves, liars and well...... true POLITICIANS. We can debate for YEARS whether or not the PBA has represented us adequately but at the end of the day we are victims of a grand larceny perpetrated by our local government. If we were all compensated at a comenserate level we'd all be arguing about who should get ordered in and transports, etc. Unfortunately we are sniping at each other because we are being deprived of our legally deserved pay.
Newsday hates us, NIFA couldn't care less about us and the CE thinks WE need a lesson in ETHICS? None of us are the problem. Today the village idiot, er county executive had to use a bible on an IPAD instead of a standard printed copy during his inauguration most probably because he's afraid it would burst into flames in front of all his constituents.
Lets all try to keep our venom aimed at the people who've been stealing from us for YEARS now. With that being said............KEEP IT GOIN ED
