As much as I dislike Government intrusion into our daily lives, something has to be done. I walk my dogs every day on a residential street to get to my local dog park. It is a normal two lane side street and it is not a double yellow line road. There are no sidewalks and I have to walk in the street. Even though the posted speed limit is 30MPH, the average speed of the cars traveling on that street is over 50MPH AND they're on their cell phones. When I get to one of the curves in the road I have to walk on the lawn or either me or one of the dogs is going to get killed. People are driving like arseholes. I don't expect or want the local Police to enforce speed limits in residential areas. I know they would have to do 65MPH to catch the idiots doing 50MPH and that would be too dangerous for all concerned. I have no problem with speed cameras. I don't care if the politicians' main purpose is revenue generation. Fine the crap out of these dopes until they either slow down or can't afford to drive any more. OK, I'm a cantankerous old fart but it's scary out there.( No, I don't drive in the left lane with my blinker on.). If you think speed cameras are a bad idea, I suggest you take your wife (make sure her insurance is paid up) for a nice stroll though your neighborhood. That will change your mind.

Agree. Though the popular perception by most is it really is only a revenue source, a surprising result has occurred. Less people running red lights. Speed cameras will over time, slow people down. Today I was following a car with two women ahead of me. As we passed a elementary school, the light turned red. Red light cameras there. She went right through it. When she gets her $80 ticket in the mail, I'm guessing (hoping) it won't happen again.
