It's a joke. When we first got the Mace we had to write a report any time we used it. If we clocked the hump with a nightstick, nothing. I never used the Mace. I used the mace a few times and it worked. I don't remember filling out a form but it may have been before they printed them. Never had occasion to use the pepper spray. If they gave me a TASER, I would avoid using it. A bit too invasive for me. Plus, I've seen some videos of other Dept's using them as a labor saving device for compliance in non violent situations. That turned me off. We just grabbed people in similar situations.

Like I've said before use what you got to stay safe everything that comes afterwards is just a bunch of BS.

Just to correct a few inaccuracies.
There have been Tasers in ESU since the early 90's.
The current Taser X26P is probably the 5th different variation that I have seen.
There is no option for rechargeable batteries. They went out with the Tasertron TE-93 which hasn't been carried in about 10 years. Taser used to say the only accepted consumer battery was the Duracell Ultra. That was for the Taser M26 which resembles a pistol, they wouldn't cover you if you used anything different. The X26 which we have been carrying for a few years uses only the Taser supplied DPM.
Allegedly they have the data download capabilities as well as new DPM's at the academy. We'll see if that's true.
The Taser is a great and effective tool. I have personally utilized it several times and the only time I was questioned about it was over how I worded the device in my report after the fact.
