Police say they received a 911 call regarding a car weaving on the westbound side of Sunrise Highway. (3:26 PM) HOLBROOK - A police officer has been seriously hurt after a car slammed into the patrol car on the Sunrise Highway in Holbrook. Chopper 12 was over the scene at exit 51 this afternoon. News 12 has learned the officer pulled over to wait for a swerving vehicle to pass. Officials say that is when a 23-year-old man driving a pickup truck slammed into the back of the patrol car. The officer was air-lifted to the hospital with serious injuries. Not too long ago, a hit like that on a Crown Vic would have resulted in a ruptured fuel tank and death by fire. Looks like Ford has a good design with the new Police Interceptor. I hope the Officer involved gets through this OK.

The same Officer was the victim in a similar MVA about 2-3yrs ago, get well soon & get out of Hwy.

I agree, but you must remember all the pds are carrying a bomb in the trunk...have you ever seen an O2 tank explode?...not good..the new cars are built to crumple and absorb the crash..but they dont take into account whats in the trunk , and those aluminum O2 tanks are not crash resistant.

No charges? I'd love to hear this guys explanation of why he hit a marked PD at high speed, in broad daylight, parked on the side of a straight and level road.
