Yep -- to add to that the so called 'victim' had: asthma, was a smoker, diabetes, heart disease ( AT 35 y/o !), and possibly hypertension to add to his exorbitant obesity. Do you think that had anything to do with it? Preliminary autopsy results show no damage or bruising to the trachea. So while the so called 'chokehold' looked bad, it's my opinion that the PO was not exerting pressure inwards toward the guys throat (what a traditional chokehold is intended to do). He was probably exerting pressure downward towards the collarbone area as he was being hurled by a perp twice his weight..

Yeah, these guys have been thrown under the bus. Use a gun, stick or tazer and you used excessive force, use your hands it's still excessive. You can't win! I want to know how Al and the media want you to get someone into cuffs maybe next time pretty please will work.

The problem in today's media obsessed world is that every step you take is somehow monitored and/or recorded. What used to amount to necessary force to effect an arrest LOOKS excessive when Mr and Mrs Smith are watching it on TV while relaxing in their living room. What is needed is a full explanation by the NYPD PBA on the amount of force it takes to handcuff people. Watch the video and see how this guy pulled his arms away from the PO in front. THIS IS A GROUND BALL RESISTING ARREST. Physical force is justified and lawful at this point. Now add this to the subject's physical size and you can legally crank it up a bit. Admittedly, the neck grab looks bad, but the autopsy allegedly fails to show neck trauma. We can debate whether or not this was a choke hold OR simply some sort of takedown method in Court (where this will undoubtedly head). Bottom line is the video camera changed police work for the worst. Not because guys are doing the wrong thing, but because the right thing looks bad to people who have never "walked a mile in an active cops shoes". I am glad I am retired.

bohica9, so am I!!!!!
The days of a short crack to the collar bone to inactivate the arm on that side and a sharp crack to the out side of the knee to stop the run away POS are gone forever......

No the problem IS the Media. Today's Media is a group of naive, immature liberal azzholes who have no idea what a Cop's job is like. They think we tell the bad guys that they're under arrest and that they all then surrender peacefully and go with us without a problem. If one of them gets hurt it's the Cop's fault because he was making an unnecessary arrest. The only necessary arrests are the ones the Media approves of, like a Cop for DWI. If Cops protest and complain about the unnecessary arrest of one of their own, it's an outrage! They also have a 24 hours News cycle. They have 24 hours of programming to fill with whatever bullshyt story they can find. If necessary, they will manufacture the News. Nothing gets the viewers attention or sells Newspapers like a good race riot. If people get hurt it's even better. Then they can torture the mourning family with interviews live, on camera. The best part is that in the end, they can walk away and blame everything on the Police. Fvck the Media. I wouldn't piss on one of them if they were on fire.

This is trickling more and more out of the big cities and into adjoining counties all across America. Everyone is looking for a payout, and to crucify the working man. Personally, I don't think that was a CHOKE hold, I think it was a head LOCK to bring down somebody MUCH larger then the cop. It was a text book take down to physically direct that POS into the ground to control the situation. None of this media bullsh*t shocks me, look at the Jersey City situation, a f*cking memorial for the perp. You can't make this up...but that's what obama, holder, deblasio, rice and the rest of the clown posse want.

The newer members may not believe this but the department trained us on the choke hold not too many years ago. It required the use of 2 arms. The right arm was placed around the neck of the subject. The left hand grabbed the right hand and clamped the arm closed like a scissor, which cut off blood supply. The video showed the Cop putting his arm around the neck of the subject for 1 or 2 seconds and his other hand not touching the clamping arm. Even if it was, there was not enough time to cut blood supply. The media needs some instructions on this technique. However, they probably would not be interested because they would rather lead the lynch mob.

A choke hold tries to stop breathing the other stops blood flow. They do not teach it anymore?

You are only supposed to use it when you're justified in using DPF.
