First of all, if half of what retired NYPD DI Corey Peques alleges in his book is true then he is a royal POS and should have never made it on that job. But, unfortunately, he did and as a result I believe he deserves his pension.
Hear me out on this before you go crazy.
I do not like this one bit regarding Peques, but he and we earn our pension by putting our time in on the job. He obviously qualified under the rules of the pension system and applicable law, like it or not.
We and all police unions (NYPD and PDCN) should defend his right to his pension on those grounds (and should hold our noses while doing so). Realize this, once you hit your 20 you are pretty much guaranteed that pension for life, no one can take it away. If NYPD can establish a precident to do so, then ALL of our pensions could one day be theoretically be revoked for one alleged reason or another. We have all had a problem or two with one boss or another, an ex-spouse can make an allegation, etc. Now, I know this is different than this POS self-admitting to serious crimes, but once the camels nose is in the tent, anything is possible.
What you see here by the NYPD and their efforts to revoke his pension is classic smoke and mirrors in an attempt to hide the blame.
Whose fault is it that Peques got on the NYPD.......... That's right Johnny, NYPD Applicant Investigations.
What were the contributing factors that Peques got on the NYPD........ That's right Johnny, NYPD's zeal for hiring minorities who might not ever qualify otherwise. This is not a slap at the vast majority of excellent minority officers on the NYPD, but we all know a few (White, Black, Green, Purple) PO's with felony arrests resulting in misdemeanor plea deals and/or admitted drug use who were knowingly hired. The high ethical and moral standards were dropped years ago, the physical standards are now non-existant.
What about special quotas for promotion in NYPD (separate lists)........ That's right Johnny, NYPD promotes some people solely based on racial quotas. This is not to say Peques was a beneficiary because for all I know he could have earned his civil service promotions to Captain. But................................ WHO PROMOTED HIM TO DI ?
That's right Johnny, none other than former Commissioner Ray Kelly.
SO WHOSE FAULT IS IT THAT COREY PEQUES IS GETTING A DISABILITY PENSION FROM NYPD??
Look in the mirror NYPD. Applicant Investigations Unit, Whoever signed off on his hire, Whoever signed off on him getting off probation, whoever gave him good evaluations, and FOREMOST, the Commissioner who promoted him to DI. That is why Corey Peques deserves his pension, sorry to say.
@#$%^&* Shame, isn't it.
Who will join me in defending his (and our) right to his pension for life ?

I absolutely see where you are coming from. It's a tough scenario because Peques is such a savage and in that sense I would love to see everything stripped away from him for being such a cvcky POS. Also, the NYPD definitely is it's own worst enemy as far as applicant investigation goes. If even a QUARTER of what these guy says is true about his life, then they really dropped the ball. Wasn't the first, and won't be the last.

The idea of a guaranteed pension for life is a relatively new one. Until a few short years ago your pension could be revoked at any time until the Statute of Limitations expired for any Crime you committed while on the job. The law was rarely enforced and very few, if any, guys had their pensions revoked under the old law. I am not aware of anyone from our job who did. As a matter of fact, I knew of one guy from our job who got his pension while serving time upstate for drugs. If it allows lowlife scumbags like Pegues to keep their pensions and thumb their noses at the system, maybe it wasn't such a good idea to change the law.

I am fully aware of this law, but it does not apply to a non-on duty crime, especially one that occurred before you were hired.

Johnny, Unfortunately, the Republican's, the Democrat's and the media all abdicated their responsibility to properly vet Obama prior to his election to the Presidency, so we can debate why they did this. We may never know the truth. He was lawfully elected. The bottom line is he is legally "serving" as President and, in my opinion, will be entitled to all the benefits afforded his position for life. Our system of laws, As #$%^ed up as they are, have a Statute of Limitations to seek relief. I am not a supporter of the current President or his policies, but in my humble opinion, he has surpassed the requirements for presidential benefits. FYI - I hold my nose as I say this.

Just imagine, if your ex-spouse, disgruntled/jealous business partner, etc. alleged you ________ and _____________ (fill in the blanks) before you became a cop and it would be good enough to be found guilty of a 210 in a departmental trial (which isn't hard in the kangaroo court)...
and we all know how vindictive some people can be....
I am just saying, we must all fight to stop them from opening this door because one day it could be used against YOU.
Isn't it better that a few A-holes get their pension under that guarantee than a thousand good ones don't?
I say this as one who has been subject to more than my share of false allegations over my 20+ years.

Screw that d$@k. He will get back the money HE contributed to the pension when he was on a job that he lied to get. Set the presidence that you can't scam the system to get a pension.

The difference is he has confessed to lying on his application, nobody else has accused him of anything. We are not talking about someone taking a hit or doing a line in high school or college either we are talking A felonies.

I agree with what most of you say. He should get his normal pension no matter what. He put his time in, even though he's a complete douche, and deserves it. However, they should look into his disability pension and see if there was anything shady about it. It would be nice to see him get locked up for fraud. He should also never get his guns back ... EVER !!! What a disgrace to the uniform and service....

That will never happen, because the brass dont want to kill the golden goose for themselves when its there time to get 3/4 tax free pension..no matter how much this guy is a savage pos....and in the end..everyone else that approved his disability will get jammed up...

We are not talking about someone taking a hit or doing a line in high school or college either we are talking A felonies. Unfortunately, lying on his application is, at best, Perjury if it was signed under oath or with a written warning. The Statute of Limitations is long expired on that.
The attempted Murder et al he claims is all without any proof or evidence at this time. Without any corroboration all you have is his admission, which unfortunately is not enough to prove anything.
Believe me, I hope evidence will be found to prove everything he brags about. Then, hopefully, he will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, statute of limitations permitting.
But, no matter what, he will still get his pension for life, as much as it bothers all of us.
