The truth is, federal law allows any member to inform the union that he elects for the portion of his dues that go towards PAC (political contributions) to be refunded to him/her.
It can be argued that dues that go towards contract negotiations are mandatory, in some cases. BUT, PAC money is not. I worked with a union delegate for a few years, he was not happy to admit it, but it is true. PM me for the actual law.
If you are an active member, and this will not make you popular with the BOG, you can demand a refund, especially if the PBA endorses/contributes to a candidate that does not represent your political views.
If enough of the membership does so, the BOG will take notice. Don't let someone use your money to buy personal favor.
Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
You are where you are because Gary Della Robber took care of Tommy G with his "Tough on Crime" adverts back in the day.
Now, you are behind enemy lines with Cuomo, Mangano, NIFA, NYS Courts and the like.
Mind as well, keep the PAC money in your pocket if it is going to go to the enemy. Besides, the PBA will have to provide detailed records, to the benefit of the membership, of their political expenditures and YOUR share to be refunded.
I would love to be a fly on the wall at Peter Lugers (or Oheka Castle) when they read this. I'll bet someone on the BOG will choke on a Jumbo Shrimp when he reads this.
Don't think I am a sh%&sturrer now because I am retired, I fought this fight when I was still OTJ.
