Hatchet-Wielding Man Shot Dead by NYPD Cops; Female Bystander, Hit By Police Bullet, Hospitalized in Critical ConditionWoman accidently struck by police gun firePolice officers shot dead a man armed with a hatchet who attacked them on a Queens street Thursday afternoon, and a female bystander was critically injured by an errant round, cop sources said. The bystander, a 29-year-old woman, was struck in the back and rushed by ambulance from the scene in Jamaica to Jamaica Hospital. Police officials described her condition as grave. The suspect walked up to four cops as they stood on Jamaica Ave. near 160th St. about 2 p.m. and lunged at them with the hatchet, police said. One of the cops suffered a slash wound to an arm, and another was struck in the head, police said. The officers then shot the man, but it was not immediately clear how many of them fired or how many rounds were unleashed. “It was a completely unprovoked attack,” said NYPD Chief Kim Royster, a department spokeswoman. The hatchet-wielding man died at the scene. It was not immediately clear where on the body he was hit or if he was struck multiple times. His name was not released. The cop who suffered the head wound was taken to Jamaica Hospital, police said. The incident was under investigation. Prayers for the recovery of the two officers

My buddy from the city gave me a little insight. From what I was told sounds like a terrorism link. Counter Terrorism Unit is on scene. While the rookie impact cops were posing for a picture, the perp jumped out with an axe striking one cop in the arm, another in the head. There is one person in custody (apparently photographer may have been working with perp with the axe). Perp is identified, and has no arrest history.

DeBlasio will play it off as a 10-62 instead of calling it like it is. This is a terrorist attack carried out buy extremist Muslims.

They are trying to figure out a way to call this workplace violence, like they did after 13 soldiers were murdered at Fort Hood by a muslim doctor who was in contact with foreign terrorists.
This is only the beginning, just look north to Canada, 2 soldiers in 2 days.
Watch your backs on patrol and wear your vests even inside the pct. Uniform = target.

Two NYPD Officers From Long Island Injured in Hatchet Attack on Queens Street
Two rookie NYPD officers from Long Island were injured, one critically, when a man struck them with a metal hatchet on a Queens street Thursday afternoon, before cops opened fire, killing the attacker and wounding a female bystander, authorities said.
The assailant struck Officer Kenneth Healey, 25, in the head with the hatchet after swinging it at Officer Joseph Meeker, 24, striking him in the arm, police Commissioner William Bratton said during a news conference with Mayor Bill de Blasio Thursday at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where both officers were treated. Healey was listed in critical but stable condition. Meeker was listed in stable condition.
Two police officers standing with Healey and Meeker at the time of the attack then fired multiple times, killing the man and wounding the woman, Bratton said. A law enforcement source identified the suspect in the ambush-style attack as Zale Thompson, 32. His most current address was unclear Thursday.
Bratton said the woman, 29, was shot once in the back and underwent surgery at Jamaica Hospital. She was in stable condition last night, hours after the attack, which Bratton said had no known motive, Bratton said.
Reports Thursday night said investigators were looking into whether the attack was connected to calls by terrorists to attack law enforcement personnel, a day after a gunman shot and killed a Canadian soldier in Ottawa.
Asked earlier about possible terrorism, Bratton said, "There is nothing we know as of this time that would indicate that were the case. I think certainly the heightened concern is relative to that type of assault based on what just happened in Canada."
The four uniformed officers -- on foot patrol with the 103rd Precinct on Jamaica Avenue near 162nd Street in Jamaica -- had just assembled for a group picture at the request of a freelance photographer when the attacker struck "with a hatchet in his hand . . . and not speaking a word," Bratton said.
In video footage released by the NYPD, the man is seen running on the rain-slicked street, raising the hatchet with both hands and swinging it forward, like a baseball bat, before disappearing from view.
He appeared to have a dark beard and wore a loose-fitting light-green jacket with a hood or hat as he charged toward the unsuspecting lawmen. On his way, he passed a pedestrian walking the other way who wheeled around to watch him sprint past with the hatchet.
He first swung at Meeker, striking him in the arm. Before the stunned group of officers could contain him, the attacker swung the hatchet again, this time slamming it down on Healey's head, Bratton said. Healey fell to the ground and the two other officers opened fire.
PBA President Patrick Lynch said the officers' "training kicked in and they immediately responded, and took control of the situation, even though one of their partners was laying on the ground seriously injured."
Prayers for a quick and speedy recovery.

Hatchet Attack on NYPD Officers an Act of Terror, Commissioner Says
The hatchet attack on two NYPD officers from Long Island was a terrorist act carried out by a homegrown radical who converted to Islam and harbored extreme anti-government views, police said Friday.
"We at this time believe that he acted alone," Police Commissioner William Bratton said of the attacker, Zale Thompson, at a news briefing in Manhattan on Friday. "We would describe him as self-radicalized. We would describe him as self-directed in his activities.
Thompson, 32, struck Officer Kenneth Healey, 25, in the head with the hatchet and Officer Joseph Meeker, 24, in his arm in Jamaica, Queens, before police fatally shot him Thursday afternoon. Healey of Oceanside -- whose father is a veteran Nassau County police detective in the First Squad -- was in critical but stable condition Friday, while Meeker of Oakdale was released from the hospital, officials said.
A 29-year-old female bystander also was critically injured when a bullet fired by one of the officers struck her in her back. A police source said the woman may be left partially paralyzed.
Thompson left an extensive trail of online communications demonstrating "anti-Western, anti-government and in some cases anti-white" sentiments, but did not appear to have connections to international terror, said John Miller, NYPD deputy commissioner of intelligence and counterterrorism.
He recently browsed websites related to extremist groups including Islamic State and al-Qaida, viewed content about beheadings, and read about Wednesday's shooting of a Canadian soldier by a gunman in Ottawa, which also is being investigated as a terrorist attack.
Thompson, who was involuntarily discharged from the Navy in the early 2000s, possibly because of drug use, was not on any terror watch lists and appeared to be a lone-wolf attacker radicalized on the Internet, police said.
"This was a terrorist attack, certainly," Bratton said.
