Fake NYPD Cop Pulls Woman Over, Asks 'Do You Have a Boyfriend? Give Me Your Phone Number
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - He didn't want her license and registration -- just her phone number.
A New Dorp construction worker posed as a police officer so he could pull over an 18-year-old woman and ask for her phone number, authorities allege.
Dennis Scamardella, 35, of the 2300 block of Richmond Road, was driving a black Cadillac with a blinking light installed in the dashboard, and at about 1 p.m. Nov. 24, he used it to stop the woman's car, police allege.
The woman, who was driving by the corner of Buel Avenue and Richmond Road in Dongan Hills, pulled over, and Scamardella pulled up directly in front of her and got out of the Cadillac, police allege.
He had what looked like a police shield dangling from his neck, and a pair of handcuffs hanging from his waistband, police allege.
"Hi, I'm Dennis. Do you know how beautiful you are?" Scamardella said, according to the criminal complaint against him.
When the woman asked if he was actually a real cop, he responded, "Yeah, don't you see my badge, cuffs and gun? Do you have a boyfriend? Give me your phone number," the complaint alleges.
Scamardella is not a police officer, but on Friday, he met the real thing -- when he was arrested by a detective with the NYPD's 122nd Precinct detective squad.
He's charged with two counts of second-degree criminal impersonation, both misdemeanors, according to information from District Attorney Daniel Donovan's office.
Scamardella was arraigned Saturday in Stapleton Criminal Court and released on his own recognizance until his next court date on March 19.
Attempts to contact Scamardella at his home and on the phone were unsuccessful Sunday.
He's the second man in a week to be arrested on charges of impersonating an officer. On Tuesday, police arrested Michael Paneque, 45, alleging he pretended to be an officer so he could stop, frisk and rob a woman in Rosebank on Sept. 6.

Crook posed as cop, performed stop-and-frisk on woman, then robbed her
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - The cop was fake, but the stop-and-frisk was real.
A New Dorp Beach man pretended to be a police officer so he could stop, frisk and rob a woman in Rosebank, authorites allege.
That robbery, which took place on Sept. 6, was one in a string of crimes committed by Michael Paneque in 2014, according to police.
Paneque, 45, of the 100 block of Titus Avenue, was arrested back on Feb. 11 on drug possession charges. He had initially been released without bail, but allegedly skipped an April 2 court date, leading to a warrant for his arrest.
Then, at about 1:30 a.m. May 9, police allege, he used a cobblestone rock to break the glass front door of the Payless ShoeSource at 2600 Hylan Blvd. in New Dorp, went through the registers and fled, leaving the cobblestone behind.
The police impersonation robbery came next, according to police.
He wore a gold "police type" badge around his neck and, at about 11:05 p.m. Sept. 6, on the corner of Maryland Avenue and James Place, he approached his 31-year-old female victim, police allege.
"Police! Freeze!" he yelled, then patted the woman down, went through her pockets, pulled her bag from her shoulder and took cash from it, police allege.
He was accompanied by an accomplice, according to police.
Finally, on Oct. 21, just before 4 a.m., he struck again, police allege. He threw a large stone through the front window of the Ralph's Italian Ices at 2361 Hylan Blvd., grabbed a cash register, placed it in a black sedan and drove off, according to court papers.
A surveillance camera caught the action, and police arrested Paneque on Oct. 28. He was released on bail the next day -- $2,500 for the break-in charges, plus another $1,000 stemming from the April warrant.
It turned out Paneque left his DNA behind on the cobblestone he used to break the front door of the shoe store, police allege, and when cops took a sample after the October arrest, they linked him to that earlier break-in.
Meanwhile, members of the NYPD's Police Impersonation Investigation Unit linked him to the Sept. 6 robbery.
On Tuesday, police arrested him again, charging him with that robbery, as well as the shoe store break-in.
He now faces robbery, burglary and criminal impersonation charges, according to information from District Attorney Daniel Donovan's office.
Paneque is slated to be arraigned in Stapleton Criminal Court on Wednesday.
