Nassau police recruit accidentally shoots himself in leg during training, officials say
A Nassau County Police Department recruit accidentally shot himself Wednesday, "piercing" his thigh and calf during a training session at the county-owned shooting range in Uniondale, police said.
The police recruit, whose name and age were withheld by the department, was attending firearms training at the Nassau County Rifle & Pistol Range when he "accidentally discharged" a single round from his service weapon during a drill, police said.
The recruit was taken to a hospital with nonlife threatening injuries, police said.
The recruit is a member of the department's latest police academy class of 69 trainee officers, who were sworn in on Oct. 3.

Oops!!! I am actually surprised something like this doesn't happen more often, especially considering the numbers going through the city acedemy.

GREAT now the insanely boring, terrible, and repetitive day we all have to go to once a year will become even worse because of this incident. get rid of him, if you shoot yourself during a non-hostile practice session i dont want you around me if it is for real

Why were they at the indoor range. I was at our range in Hempstead not to long ago and just about everything seemed like it was working.

And some people complain that we have to wear vests at the range. Speedy recovery to the recruit!

I can't see them taking him back after spotting himself in the leg, not to mention all the potential problems with qualifying at the range.
