Years ago, when the job had a sense of humor, I submitted the following suggestion for a new logo design of the RMP's (I think it was around 1994 or 1995, when a Dept. Order asked for employee suggestions of new logos on the cars). It is even more appropriate now as it could help pay for longevity, retro and raises.
I suggested that the department shrink the patch on the doors to the same size as our shoulder patch.
I envisioned the RMP's looking like professional race cars.
This would enable the County to sell advertising space on the doors, fenders, hood, trunk and roof. You even have space on the inside of the car (think of todays modern taxi with TV screen advertisements on the headrests).
Think of the revenue that could be generated by putting the logo of "Peter Lugers" on the trunk of 614
OR
"DSW Shoes" on left front fender of 313 (You could even put a six foot high shoe on the roof)
OR
"The Coral House" on the left front door of 120
OR
"Zackary's" on the hood of 104
OR
"Starbucks" on the rear window of 217
OR
"DWI Attorney David P. Gallison" on the back of the right front seat headrest of a Highway car (for the drunks)
OR
Actually, the helicopters could also drag airborne banners.
Maybe the PBA can run a "Vote for Cuomo" banner with YOUR PAC money (Oooooops, did I just type that?)
OR
the Ambulances have room for premium size adverts, which could command double the normal rates
OR
while we are at it, mind as well sell space inside and outside of the precincts and booths.
THE SKY IS THE LIMIT FOR INCOME POTENTIAL
and
Of course, any restaurant sponsoring a RMP must take care of the post guy (no poachers)
OR
Heck, I would wear a "Hooters" hat for a 10% raise...
I never did hear back about my suggested design, submitted through Official Channels.
Too bad, I thought it had potential and I thought I would get a day off for suggesting it as the powers then still has a sense of humor.
