NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -
Police in Yonkers, N.Y., have launched a new initiative called "stop and shake." Officers in Getty Square gave Fox 5 News an exclusive first-hand look. Overall, officers received a positive response.
Yonkers officers on foot patrol will now be approaching people on the street in an effort to build community relations and keep streets safer at the same time. It was only Day 1 of stop and shake, but so far, so good.
Local activist Hector Santiago came up with stop and shake and presented it to the Yonkers Police Department. He also created a Facebook page to raise awareness.
Yonkers Police Commissioner Charles Gardner said he believes it will help build a stronger community one handshake at a time.
Yonkers is Westchester's largest municipality and the fourth-largest city in the state.
This leaves me speechless...

He should be wearing rubber medical gloves. It would set a friendly tone, I think.
Sadly, look at the bystanders in the picture (you have to click the link because I don't know how to post a picture). They could be thinking about disarming the PO.

I was glad when the fist bump came into vogue. Now can do that and not have some person get all bent out of shape about me not shaking their hand.
