The prosecutors are nuts for accusing a Cop of doing something like that but that's the only way they could get a conviction and the jury bought it. It was an accident. This opens the door for any Cop to be prosecuted for any accident that occurs while in the performance of duty. Taking Police action of any kind could land you in prison.

the juries are not our peers, but mutts that want to get revenge....this story occurred during the trial, perfect example of why the cop did what he did, it should have been entered into the trial for that reason..WTF....

New York — Two police officers were shot and wounded by a gunman they encountered in the stairwell of a public housing project they were patrolling, and the gunman later killed himself, authorities said.
Police said three officers were on the sixth floor of the Melrose Houses complex in the Bronx Thursday night when they encountered two people. One person pulled a gun and opened fire, hitting one officer in the face and the other in the abdomen, before running into an apartment on the seventh floor. The third officer was not hurt.
Officers responding to the scene found the gunman in the apartment dead of an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound. A handgun and a shotgun were found inside the apartment, police said.
The second person who encountered the officers in the stairwell was taken into custody, and three people in the apartment were being questioned, said New York Police Department First Deputy Commissioner Ben Tucker.
The shooting happened about 5 miles from where Mayor Bill de Blasio was delivering his State of the City address, much of which was dedicated to praising the work of police officers.
De Blasio, a Democrat, was told about the shooting as he finished his speech and left the stage. He met with the family of one of the officers at the hospital where they were being treated.
“Our brave officers were doing their jobs tonight in our public housing on patrol keeping residents safe,” de Blasio said. “Both officers are alert and communicating, and we are praying for the best here.”
One of the officers is a 29-year-old man, and the other is a 24-year-old woman, said Robert Boyce, the police department’s chief of detectives. The officers, who are assigned to the Housing Bureau, have been on the force for about two years. Police would not provide the names of the officers or the person who was in custody.
The officers were shot while they were conducting a vertical patrol, where officers start in the lobby of a public housing project and walk the stairwells up to the roof and back down, Tucker said.
The head of the police officers’ union, Patrick Lynch, said the shooting shows the dangerous nature of the job.
“We need your support to teach our young folks that pulling a gun on a police officer works for no one,” he said. “This goes to show the dangers police officers face each and every day.”
He said the shooting shows the difficulty of vertical patrols.
A police officer is on trial for manslaughter in Brooklyn after shooting an unarmed man during a similar patrol in November 2014. Rookie officer Peter Liang had his gun drawn in a pitch-black stairwell at the Louis Pink Houses in Brooklyn when he accidentally fired a shot. Akai Gurley was on a lower floor walking to the lobby and was struck and killed. Prosecutors say Liang was reckless and shouldn’t have had his finger on the gun’s trigger. Liang has pleaded not guilty, and his defense has suggested he had his gun drawn because of the dangerous nature of the assignment.
In January, a police officer responding to a large street fight in the Bronx was shot in an ankle. And in October, a police officer responding to a report of shots fired and a bicycle stolen at gunpoint in Manhattan’s East Harlem neighborhood was killed.

The family is demanding that the NYPD “permanently end all vertical patrols and stop using the NYPD as your security” and divert funds that they said paid for additional officers in 2016 to invest in “critical resources into real affordable housing for the working-class, community centers, and after-school programs.”

I suggest the good NYPD bosses, if there are any left, signal a de-mobilization and full withdrawal from Brooklyn, Bronx and New York (Manhattan) Counties and build a wall, ala "Escape from NY". Heck, have Trump build the wall... Let the residents fend for themselves while they listen to the media/democraps tell them how better off they are with the big, bad cops gone....

I've walked the stairwells of the "Pink" houses, long ago, ( as I'm sure a bunch of you guys have also ) ....it was un nerving then as it is now. TWO of our Brothers were shot in the Bronx in a similar stairwell just this week. This poor kid was a pawn for the DA and politicians to appease the blm idiots and the libs. I pray that this travesty gets overturned upon appeal. This was an accident caused by multiple circumstances beyond his control. And today the kids partner gets fired for.........God knows what. Sad all around. To ALL......stay safe.

TWO of our Brothers were shot in the Bronx in a similar stairwell just this week. I cannot imagine working in an environment so dangerous that during a patrol of a building a trained police officer feels he needs to have his gun drawn for fear of his own life. How messed up is a world like that? In my world, people doing wrong see or hear the police coming and go the other way. Not in their world. They look to ambush. Unreal. This poor kid was a pawn for the DA and politicians to appease the blm idiots and the libs. I pray that this travesty gets overturned upon appeal. This was an accident caused by multiple circumstances beyond his control. Nothing but a tragedy. An accidental discharge that happens. I feel really bad for this guy and have since the start. I'm hoping the stupid comments the DA made in his summation will be plenty of grounds for appeal. He effectively accused him of Murder 2 in it. What?! And today the kids partner gets fired for.........God knows what. Sad all around. To ALL......stay safe. I was shocked when I heard this too. I can only think that, because he was on probation and could basically be fired for anything, the fact that he embarrassed the job by claiming the whole cheating thing in the Academy, etc. probably sealed his fate. All around, a very sad state of affairs for ALL involved.

As I heard the story, the cop was not even aware that the round had hit the victim initially; he was around the corner of the stairwell. That was when the conversation about reporting the AD and being fired occurred. They became aware of the victim after the girlfriend came down the stairwell , found him and started screaming about a minute later, at which time they did start to render aid...
