Just curious - what guidelines has the dept put in place to protect members from exposure to possible ebola aided
Meaning gowns or equipment in the pd over and above the crap the issued us years ago - guidelines as to how to handle possible ebola cases.

Same as always; Wait until after something happens.

That would be terrible - as responding members are more vulnerable at the 1st point of contact - and even more vulnerable to bringing it home with them possibly exposing their love ones

This is simple, we do not have the proper gear nor training to deal with this virus. When coming cross an infected person, we should be setting up a perrimetter, informing the CDC and letting them (who have real gear and years of actual training) take care of the infected person. Instead this department has a policy of risking spreading a virus that kills 50% and can spread by someone simply sneezing on you. I highly recommend everyone Google the virus to get real info on it. And this bs it doesn't spread easy, then why one person gets it and an entire village gets wipped out. It has quickly spread to different countries an infected over 9k they know of. Half are dead now.
This incredible irresponsible policy of us putting on a basically a paper towel, transport the infected person, then continue to drive around the rmp, pass the keys and radio off, then go home to our loved ones where we will be "watched" for symptoms. As the bus continues to transport other regular aided and cop after cop gets passed the rmp. Are you fin kidding me? I for one am refusing to transport any infected person. I rather take a hit or go home "sick" then risk myself and my family because this department is clueless. We are the police, not the CDC. It is NOT our place the deal with an infected person.
PBA wtf are you doing? You should be screaming.

HA..you think the union gives a shvt about you guess again.....the BOG will never see the street to even worry about catching anything..they cant get rain coats and bullet proof vests for the new recruits and you want all kinds of protective gear...the next email the bog sends out will tell you to wrap yourself in plastic from isle 5 at home depot and some duct tape...can you tell the difference between ebola and the common flue? I sure cant nor can the doctors without a blood test...so now its cold and flue season..what are you gona do???

I don't even think the hospitals are set up to handle Ebola. Rumor has it that numb denied entry to police fd ambulance personnel and a patient suspected of Ebola for over two hours. Heard the had to stay in the ambulance.

Under such circumstances, I can see where half the people on 2 shifts could end up on quarantine by the time they discovered that an aided was infected. Not a pretty picture.

Totally unaaceptable - if true the BOG should be all over that - if not true they should know already if that situation could happen and their plan to address it.

We should be seeing the standard BS Press Release soon. "The Nassau County Police Department has announced that they are adding additional officers and intensifying patrols in the vicinity of local hospitals in light of the potential Ebola Epidemic". There you go, problem solved.
