its a good thing my brother inlaw hugo helped me to register cause i been trying for two days to get on here .its a good thing he took a 2 week computer coarse while he was in the deportment detention center .i guess you could say he is good for some thing other than hiding in my basement from the ins

Sorry my old one is ny426, googleyes is a joke on myself and between the guys at work. So was my response. Welcome back. I worked with Googleyes when he was a Sgt. He wasn't a bad boss. |

Question: Why is the board public? You only need to register if you want to post something. Wasn't the old board private unless you logged in?

How about requiring your Serial number to become a member and be able to log on this site. I will keep off the tools and shvt heads. I know that's how the PBA gets its messages out to the flock. Just a thought.

At first it was open to anyone. Posting did not require registration. That didn't last too long when the trolls arrived. It was then changed to registration system, no registration required to read only, the same as this board. A while after that, it was changed so that registration was required to even read the content. This is a new board. It has not been publicised outside of our old membership and it relys on the membership to spread the word of its existance within the department. Many potential members won't bother to join unless they can view content. This is true of all internet forums. So in the interest of growth, we will remain visible to non members. We do have one 'member only' board (PDCN Events) within this forum. In any case, we should be careful with what we write, no names, unless it has been already published in the papers, and no discussions of sensitive departmental information. Also, don't forget that Thee Rant (NYPD Rant) is set up the same as this forum. Their forum is very well known to the public and the hostile NYC media. They have not seen a reason to limit viewing by non members as of this date. They do have a way to screen new members however. Thanks for your interest. If there are problems in the future, Pro Boards has given us options to deal with them. |

We don't have that here. The administrator of Thee Rant (NYPD Rant) requires that new members E mail a copy of their ID cards to him. I know that many people here would not like doing that but it is a fairly effective solution to the larger problems they have over there. There is also another problem. Some of our membership are from other law enforcement agencies or are interested citizens. If we run into some tools and shvtheads, trolls etc., they will be dealt with on an individual basis. Coots and I will be keeping a much closer watch over this board than was possible on the old board. |

I finally got here. Had a hell of a time, but now, all is well and the sun is shinning once again.
