E V E R Y department has their share of assholes....it just so happens that larger departments tend to have more. It's just a little absurd to be driving on the LIE in a MARKED CAR and get passed by some pr*ck doing 85, only to pull him over and have him flash a shield saying "I'm on the job." Courtesy goes a long way, and it's said moments above that give certain departments a bad name. I understand it's not the department, it's the individual...but some don't. It also doesn't help that they're usually from the same department LOL!

I agree to pass a marked car at 85 is ridiculous and stupid. Some guys are dumb and think its ok which it is not. Then other city guys are so naive cause we get passed all time in city patrolling that they don't realize it's a highway and your not suppose to pass the highway car. Courtesy is def a 2 way street and I wish it could be returned more by us. I've had the honor of returning it a few times over the years at certain parades and NYE and it felt good. The MOS from the counties truly appreciated and what was more important to me than that was their kids faces when they could almost touch the floats at the thanksgiving parade. Times like that make it awesome to be a Cop and you forget the petty stuff (like this). Be safe all

Like anything else its all attitude. I've pulled guys over with tax numbers lower than my old one(I'm now going on my 16th yr) and have encountered attitudes. And I've pulled over new guys who were nothing but respectful. I always believed in the 10% rule. Although it may be a bit higher today. But I think everyone on here will agree the proliferation of PBA cards is ridiculous. I've collared guys for felonies and they have said can't you hook me up I've got family on the job, and sure enough the signed PBA card is in their wallet. Sure ill hook you up, just not the hookup you think you deserve. Best was a mope who beat his 8 year old kid with a phone, fought 4 cops, spit at everyone, and broke out the back of the window of the cruiser. We get him back to the S.H. And he expects a courtesy because his brother is OTJ.

Back in the stone ages when I was a LOE we only got two ( 2) PBA cards. No others were available. So My Mon and Dad each got one and my wife had my Photo and a mini tin. They just happened to be respectiful drivers and NEVER GOT STOPPED.
Just remembering.....

There are too many cards but if someone has the right attitude without the card 99% of the time I give them a warning. I write sh&&heads and usually leave the working stiffs alone. I have found cards on drug dealers, gang members, parolees/probationers and a level 3 sex offender. There are over 30,000 cops in the city and you are going to get a certain amount of a-holes on any job. They get a tremendous amount of courtesy out here as it should be but the very few that get tagged ends up with someone bitching on the Internet with no mention of the courtesy shown everyday. There are some guys that have zero discretion though like they are effin robots, same guys write our own cards. I've had city hwy write over my card and I never came on here and bitched about it and I didn't feel the need to go writing city cards because I know that hwy guy is just one of their a-holes. The only people I have given cards to are people I know would be respectful and if I ever did get a call from a Cop that says the person he pulled over has an attitude I'd say to write the summons. Nobody should be treated like dirt especially by a person given the honor of having a card, its not a right for a civilian to be shown courtesy.

Well said, I have also had a card written over by NYPD and never called or posted. Very well said Googleyes...couldn't have said it better!

I would honor a card and the next driver without a card that I pulled over, would probably be given a warning too....just to keep things fair, in my mind at least. Then there were days while sitting on a stop sign, where I would pull over 3 or 4 Cops or drivers with a card in a row. Just threw up my hands and quit for the day.
