Very lucky indeed. Perhaps they were taking him somewhere as an intox? It wouldn't be the first time a Cop threw a drunk into the back seat for a quick ride to the train station.

We use to drop the "Belmont Racetrack Drunks" either over the city line (Cross Island Parkway) or up Plainfied Ave. into Floral Park.
Just sayin.........
