I don't want to panic anyone but;
I received it the mail today from the Comptrollers Health Benefits Unit a FINAL NOTICE for not responding to the "ANNUAL ATTESTATION" letter - (PINK COPY) in December of 2012. I completed and sent that letter back in, in December 2012
I called them today and they said they have been misplaced...How many have been misplaced I don't know. UNBELIEVABLE!!
Well anyway, watch your mail as the cut-off date is 6/30/13. If not sent in it will result in the cancellation of your coverage.

So aside from losing the paperwork that could end up having a lot of people losing coverage there is also the possibility of a lot of Cops personal info floating around somewhere......that's just great!

You can call this telephone number, they may have information for you: (if you have questions please feel free to contact us at (516) 571-2369) ask for the Health Benefits Unit ... had me hold on for about 5 minutes as they are flooded with calls.

Sounds like a clever plan to reduce costs by eliminating enrolees. Well, not really......I think.

I wanted to share some info with you guys. I called over to Comptrollers Health Benefits Unit at (516) 571-2369 to ask them if they had my ANNUAL ATTESTATION" letter and they told me that they did not know and If it were missing I would get a letter in the mail soon. I asked if they could check for me because I do not live in the state and they said no. I asked what would happen if they sent this last letter and it gets lost in the mail because they do not send it certified mail and they stated I would lose my heath care. I don't have any idea how many they lost but it sounds like they lost a lot. I am at a loss of what to do next. This whole thing sounds a little fishy if you ask me.Only been retired 11 months and first post on here..........

My Suggestion FWIW :
Write them and tell them you have received information that the attestation form for many have been lost or misplaced.
Please have them advise same if in fact they have yours on file. If not, request ASAP to forward one for completion.
Additionally, ask them to accept this letter as a follow-up to the form already completed in December with the following family members (names, ages) remaining covered, and the plan (HIP or Empire) you request.
Send it certified ret. receipt.
It'll give you a fighting chance if they drop the ball.
Cost about 5 bucks in postage as opposed to doing nothing, having no documention, and being told later it was your responsibilty and you're out of luck.
Put the burden on them, CYA.

So it's their fault no explaination or even a stroke and we are told to go screw. This only effects retired members? This active cop will respond in kind if fortunate enough to have an on duty encounter with one of these bean counters. I will conduct myself with the utmost professionalism and be thorough in the task at hand with a full detailed explaination like one our retired brothers deserved but did not recieve, after serving a good part of your lives to the county the proper respect should have been shown. Even taking the LEO equation out of it anyone should have been treated with common decency a little bit humble given their mistake and minus the arrogant attitude.

What a great way to screw us old timers. Most of us make less than 24k in pension and as we age we rely more on our Health Insurance to help us in our twilight years. Why the f--k don't the county shoot us when we hit 80years!!!!!
Bastards.........

What a great way to screw us old timers. Most of us make less than 24k in pension The Republican Mangano administration see's any county worker's benefits, pension, and medical coverage as ENTITLEMENTS! That's right! The new breed of conservatives lumps us right in with welfare recipients and anyone collecting a benefit from government....whether they earned it or not!

This is all a game with the Comptroller's Office. I sent the letter back Registered Mail with a Return Receipt. The Post Office Tracking System advises a delivery attempt was made at 11:00AM but was refused because "No Authorized Recipient was Available". It's time to get the lawyers warmed up in the bullpen. The County is planning something unpleasant.

The Post Office says it was delivered today. I'll probably get the receipt tomorrow. Now I'll have to wait and see if they lose it again.
