Cops: NYPD Officer Charged With DWI in Wrong-Way Crash
An NYPD officer from Long Island is facing criminal charges after driving the wrong way on the Southern State Parkway and crashing into five other vehicles in Malverne early Saturday, State Police said.
The off-duty officer, Ronald Holmes, 48, of Elmont, was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless endangerment, reckless driving and several other traffic violations.
The crashes occurred about 1:45 a.m. when Holmes, a 20-year NYPD veteran, drove a Mazda minivan eastbound in the westbound lanes near Exit 17, police said.
One person was taken to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow for minor injuries. Three others were treated at the scene but not admitted, police said.
The crashes involved vehicles in both the westbound and eastbound lanes, according to police, though they gave no further details.
At Holmes' arraignment in First District Court in Hempstead bail was set at $10,000 bond or $5,000 cash, officials said. His next court appearance was scheduled for Tuesday.
As of Saturday night, Holmes had not posted bail, authorities said. No one answered the door at his home.
Holmes, of the 76th Precinct in Brooklyn, has been suspended without pay, NYPD officials said.
Good God, what was he thinking? I hope he was just sick, low blood sugar or something, and not Dee Wee.
Maybe he was possibly confused and entered the parkway at the Linden Blvd exit instead of going down a side street on his way home?
