That is true. However, NCPD and SCPD do not currently have the 384(e)b benefit. I retired in 2011 from SCPD under 384(e). Not sure where you're getting your info from. Correct. SCPD is currently in the 384(e) plan. I stated that they do not have the 384(e)b benefit. There's a significant difference between the two.

There's a significant difference between the two. Tier 2 guys OTJ who have "credible prior public service time" DO have this benefit, in Nassau & Suffolk. For example : A correction officer who became a cop will have his time counted on the BACK end, also, in Nassau, AMT's who worked for NCPD get the time on the back end (there's a few of these in SCPD too). I had 3.5 years added for "prior public service" There's not much significance between the two, other than adding time at the end of 20. The options are 100% the same.

I had 3.5 years added for "prior public service" There's not much significance between the two, other than adding time at the end of 20. The options are 100% the same. As per the 384 plan description....... "Creditable service includes that rendered while: i) An officer or member of any organized fire department or organized police force or police department of any county, city, town, village, fire district, police district or participating employer in which the applicant is a member at the time of retirement. ii) An officer or member of any organized fire department or organized police force or police department of any county, city, town, village, fire district, police district or participating employer other than the one in which the applicant is a member at the time of retirement, if the employer elects to assume the cost of such prior fire or police service, or: a) The member is already covered by 384D in the first department, or: b) The member did not improve their retirement coverage by changing employers, or; c) If, at retirement, the first department also elects 384D. iii) A New York city police department trainee or a New York city transit officer trainee, if the Pension Accumulation cost is paid. iv) Police department cadet, if the Pension Accumulation cost is paid." It's a common misconception that prior public service counts in the 384(e) plan. So common in fact that in 2009 a bill was passed(Chapter 390 of the Laws of 2009) that allowed anyone who had previously transferred their non-PFRS time into 384(e) to reinstate their time into their prior plan.
