What pension plan are NCPD tier 2 members in the NYS Police and Fire Retirement System?
I know that they are in a special 20 year non contributory plan but is there anything more specific?
For example....they are not in the same plan as tier 2 members that are in Lynbrook Police dept since they have a 25 year retirement. Also some villages do not get the 1/60th's for every year immediately after 20 years of police service if one was to be eligible to retire at 41 but did 5 more years until 46. So im assuming there different pension plans specifically for tier 2 nys PFRS.
I want to know specifically what plan Tier 2 members of the NCPD are in and if they if they are entitled to the benefits after 20 years of service in section 384-e and 384-e(b).
My friend was a tier 2 NYC corrections officer under the NYCERS pension plan for 5 years which entitles him to a vested pension at 41 yrs old. On the NYS PFRS website it says that they accept transfers from the NYCERS pension. If he transfers that service to the PFRS as opposed to getting a vested pension benefit at 42 years old.....will that time count on the back end (giving him 5 years of the 1/60th's) once he completes 20 years with NCPD since it is not Police of Fire service.
He already became a tier 2 NCPD cop in 2007.

If I remember correctly, each employer had the option to include their employees in the NYS Police and Fire Retirement System 1/60th bill. Some of them didn't. Otherwise, pension plans are the same. NCPD Tier 2 gets 1/60th

Would he be able to have that 5 years count on the back end AFTER he completes 20 Yeats as an ncpd cop to get 5 years of the 1/60th's. I think that may be a better option than getting the vested pension from nyc

If he came on in 2007 he gets the 1/60th for every year past 20 yrs up to a maximum of 35 yrs. for 75% although Tier 2 may max at 70%, not sure....I don't know how it works with past Corrections service.

For the 1/60th's it actually maxes out at a 70% pension @ 32 years of service under tier 2. For tier 1 it maxes out at 75% I think NCPD tier 2 police officers are covered under section 384-d of the RSSL under the NYS PFRS.....which provides a 20 year non contributory pension And I think the additional 1/60th's tier 2 members receive is covered under section 384-e & 384-e (b)......for a max additional pension of 1/60 past the 20 yrs upto 32yrs

NCPD and SCPD are both covered by 384(e) in the PFRS. Tiers 2,5 and 6 are entitled to 1/60ths up 32 years for a total of 70%. Only prior police or fire time, and some military, count as creditable service. Corrections time is not creditable. It does not count on the front or back end.

I called up the PFRS and they said that the NYC corrections service counts on the back end AFTER you complete 20 years of credit or service. The corrections time cannot count towards the 20 but he would get 5 years of the 1/60ths under 384-e (b)..... If you look up PFRS 384-e (b).....the second part state for prior service other than police or fire. Am I understanding this right? I may want to give them a call again to confirm

Additional Benefits After 20 Years (Section 384-e)1234Eligibility Under the 20-year plan, you will receive additional benefits for service over 20 years if your employer adopted coverage under Section 384-e and/or 384-e (b) of the RSSL. Should your employer make these benefits available to you, you are automatically covered. If your employer chooses to adopt the benefits for a limited period of time, and you enter employment after the expiration date, you would not be eligible for them.
The Section 384-e Benefit This provides an additional pension of 1/60th (1.66 percent) of your FAS for each year of creditable service beyond 20 years. If you are 55 at retirement and an alternative regular plan would provide a greater benefit, you will receive the greater benefit.
The Section 384-e (b) Benefit This provides an additional 1/60th (1.66 percent) of your FAS for each year of service earned with a public employer prior to your service performed as a police officer or firefighter.
Maximum Benefit •For Tier 1 members, the maximum benefit payable under Section 384-e and Section 384-e (b) is 75 percent of your FAS. •For Tier 2, 3, 5 and 6 members, the maximum benefit payable is the benefit due on completion of 32 years of creditable service (70 percent of your FAS).

That is true. However, NCPD and SCPD do not currently have the 384(e)b benefit.
