Crazy if true.
But the guys on the bottom end are really fed up. And sure the guy going to retire needs it because it will increase his bottom line every year, but the inequity between the top pay and guys at the bottom is so large right now that the guy at the bottom might be having difficulty paying his mortgage.

If that is true then in my eyes that is really sad. This isn't a few years ago when you have gladly help the guys about to leave and give up your hit for them. Guys in steps have been struggling so badly making anywhere from 40-80k less than guys at top pay. Sorry buy in this world right now, I certainly don't care about the guy retiring and am just worried about staying afloat.

Back in "77 we got paid for 12 holidays. I was in the chart to work 9 of them I paid guys to switch with me so they would not lose out on the money and I got half of that day the rest of my life. Also I had a great boss who let me work a week of my vacation, so another guy could take a summer week off. I never felt that I screwed any one out ot time or money after I retired. There are ways, if your allowed, to beef up that last year without screwing any one, even though its really hard times for you all who are stuck in steps. Overtime was handeled very different back then. If you got any, it was all yours. Just my two cents…...

Anyone truth to the story of a 2nd pct guy who made a complaint to the boss about curtosey being extended to guys who are about to retire?? Bad info bro's I'm the senior most guy retiring this yr in the 02 - I have the most hours out those retiring this yr and I've been like in middle of the top 10 in hours all year but mostly near the top. I take every 4hr detail and late 0300 call in, if I'm being fed someone better pinch me so I wake up from this cause I'm just barely making my numbers

You really can't expect guys to help out another guy that's pension will be more than their salary. IMO

Some of you guys keep saying you don't care about the guys at top pay. You wouldn't like it if they said the same thing regarding your steps when it's vote time. You have a right to be angry but your directing it at the wrong people.

I actually agree with the last post....... However during this last vote on the "deal" I seriously doubt most senior guys voted yes to help the guys in steps. I believe they (senior) want their money just as bad.... Hence the landslide "yes" vote

Nobody on here can say they feel about the guys at top pay who are making 80k more than them. I wouldn't give up my overtime in this climate to help him out sorry. And if the rolls were reversed and lets say there was a hypothetical deal to get us just our steps and the top pay guys would have to give something back, Do you Really think they would care about me? If you do, then you are kidding yourself. Regardless, Backdoorit confirmed it was just a rumor anyway.

STILLNOSTEPS- I really hope your a troll because if you aren't, I hope I never have to go to IAB with you. What does this have to do with IAB? Iam merely stating my point of view from a monetary stand point. I cannot feel bad that Mr. Top Pay isn't going to have a larger pension when Iam worried about paying my mortgage every month. I have nothing against top pay guys, just don't expect guys stuck in steps to give overtime handouts, thats all.

Guys stuck in steps deserves the hit. This job has been far greater to the guy retiring now than it will ever be for the new jacks. the iab comment was really cvnty btw.

I would not pass on hit of overtime to a senior guy who is retiring either, nothing personal but if I am up for it then I am taking it plain and simple if others pass on it thats fine but I will be taking every hit I am entitled to.

What's happening in the 02 is there are a lot sharks in the water this year ( money wise things aren't getting cheaper or better ) so it's good to see many are getting all they want - as for me, being high in the book like I've always been there's no one else behind me and many had to pass on it just to get to me. The Book keeps things fair - if it gets to me that high up on the list and I miss it someone might get ordered, then I would kicking myself for two reasons.
Don't know how things are in other pct's but for 20 yrs we fed the retiring guys with the thought someday it will get back to us - but about 7yrs ago that all stopped. There you go - Dat's that. I can't be bitter about it I just have do the best I can and be thankful for what I'm going to get.
It was best put to me last year when I was told that for 20yrs I gave at the office only to see no return on my investment. Sadly funny but true - I just keep plodding along and hope everyone gets their due and that I get some too.

In the city, a senior guy getting ready to retire would always get the Ot hits & I was all for it. This job & the way it is divided is another animal. Guys need to pay their mortgages. Transferring out here, most us took out multiple loans knowing that one day it would pay off. Obviously that backfired as we have been frozen for 3 years with no end in sight. I'm friends with many top pay guys but unfortunately there are a bunch who have this self entitled attitude. When 250 of us almost got laid off (and it was closer than most people realize of actually happening) there were plenty of guys at meetings & some who even said to my that they would vote to lay me off. In city I would pop someone if they said that to my face. Here (with no locker room mentality) I would get collared for it.
