WOODBURY - News 12 Long Island has just learned that Nassau County Commissioner of Police Thomas V. Dale has been fired.
Sources tell News 12 the move has something to do with outside influence within the department.

Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano has replaced the county's top law enforcement official after prosecutors found Police Commissioner Thomas Dale personally directed his officers to pull over a county bus in October and arrest a witness in a politically-motivated election-year case.
In a statement, Mangano said he met with Dale, who he hired as commissioner in January 2012, on Thursday morning and the commissioner tendered his resignation.
Dale, who will not be charged by District Attorney Kathleen Rice, will be replaced on an interim basis by Victor Politi, Mangano's deputy county executive for public safety.
"District attorney Rice today brought a troubling matter to my attention regarding questionable influence within the Nassau County Police Department," Mangano said in a statement. "Upon further investigation, the District Attorney found no evidence to indicate criminality but the investigation itself indicates a fresh look at internal procedures is warranted. This approach is necessary to maintain the highest standards of police internal administration. New leadership sends a clear message that stringent administrative review and application is underway."
Two other top police officials involved in the bus incident - Chief of Detectives John Capece and Sgt. Sal Mistetta - have since resigned or retired. Capece will be replaced by Narcotics Vice Squad Insp. Kevin Smith.
The case involved Randy White, 29, of Roosevelt, that former Freeport Mayor Andrew Hardwick was paying those who carried his petitions in the county executive race $1.25 for each signature they got. Petitioners legally can be paid per hour but not per signature. Hardwick has denied the claim.
White was arrested Saturday while riding a bus from Roosevelt to Hempstead. He had failed to pay a $250 fine after pleading guilty earlier this year to selling bootleg DVDs.
A report from Rice said the arrest was made at the behest of Gary Melius, owner of the Oheka Castle catering hall and a Hardwick donor.

Coincidence this happened right around the time a deal is happening? He wasn't being charged, did he need to be fired? Either way...good stuff.

I guess it makes sense having a surgeon as our commissioner. The job is on life support. 1090 is right, Capece was a great boss.

I guess it makes sense having a surgeon as our commissioner. If a cook can run the jail... This county is comical
