Nassau gives budget consultant contract increase

It was considered a smart move in the summer of 2011 when Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano hired AJ Consulting Services for $24,500 for budget advice and to deal with the county's financial control board. The firm is run by two longtime Albany veterans close to Senate GOP leader Dean Skelos of Rockville Centre: Abe Lackman, who was budget director under New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, and John McArdle, who served Skelos and two prior GOP leaders as communications staffer and director.
Now, Nassau has upped its payments, with the legislature's Rules Committee unanimously approving another contract increase, bringing the firm's total compensation since 2011 to $455,375. Lackman and McArdle earn $250 an hour each. -- Celeste Hadrick
