I would say Kirby too. He would do what he is told but at the same time he has a lot of respect for the job and the cops, especially the ones that work.

No credible person will take this job as things stand now. You would have to be nuts to join this crazy train. Look what's happened the past three months. The job resembles the end of a Godfather film. Everyone is getting whacked. First Hannon, then Capece, and finally Dale.
No wonder Politi got out of Dodge so quickly. He probably saw the writing on the wall. As for Kirby and Smith, they need to go to the mattresses before it's too late, before they get whacked too. But remember in times like today, no one is safe and anybody can get whacked at any time. That's why we have such great morale. Not.

Chief Tony Rocco, I'll second that. He was NCPD through and through. You may not have always agreed with him but there is something to be said about a boss with a pair of balls. I am surprised you have never heard of him OTC.

Perhaps when we look outside the job we should start looking to celebrities like Arizona or California. Nassau county could make a reality show out of it and use the funds to pay for our alleged deficit. "who wants to be a police commissioner hosted by Fox News contributor on law enforcement issues Bo Dietl." The show could start off with 50 contestants. There would be a judge panel. We would have two of our own police chiefs on the panel, a retired military general and then celebrity judges Donald trump and simon cowell. The contestants would have to endure several months of different events and challenges till the winner is declared. Any ideas of what would be fitting challenges?

Need an elected commissioner... So he/she doesn't have to submit to One West St. And there would be less political shenabkns, like the ones recently giving us a major black eye.

Be careful what you wish for, go that route and you can end up with a Brewington running our department....... As Retired NCPD would say. Just Saying

At the end of the season, Mangano might pick Bo Dietl for Commissioner.

How about this for a new idea. We could abolish the position of Commissioner. While we're at it, let's also abolish all the chief spots except for one. He/She would be called the Chief of Police. All of the current Chiefs' jobs could easily be done by Inspectors. Something might actually get done then, since the Inspectors would be less prone to stabbing each other in the back in order to get to the top and more prone to actually implementing policy changes that would work. Eliminate the Commissioners and all the Chiefs save one and we could reduce the cost of excess management overhead tremendously thereby achieving a permanent savings for the County.

If we lose any more bodies we'll be able to run the Department with a Lieutenant and two Sergeants.

Going forward, maybe we could save money by hiring part time Police Commssioners and Chiefs. It would help two ways. First it would cut upper management's costs in half. Second, they would only be able to do half the damage to the job they are doing now as they would only be here half the time. If this works, perhaps we could apply it to the County Executive position as well.
