Was talking to a few guys yesterday and 1 mentioned that he didn't know what the rush for anyone to come on the job now was all about...said that the current starting salary of 34k sunsets at the end of 2014 and in '15 it goes to 45k. I never heard this...anyone know if this is true?? If it is, I was thinking that it would create a real problem for the guys about to be hired before the end of March and then anyone hired next year...present classes frozen at 34k and next years junior members frozen at 45k. Also heard the class was going in March because they have so much money invested in them already (with their investigations) that they don't care about a deal and health benefits contributions. Be interesting if this starting salary thing were true how it would effect these news guys' decision to come on the job now or wait a while.....opinions, thoughts, ideas???

It is true check out the MOA section on the website. It is from 2007 it was designed to get the county to negotiate a contract quicker. When the contract expires starting pay goes to 45,000. So in essence you could get hired in 15 for more 11,000 than guys who have been frozen for two years.

It would start in 2016 no? Contract goes til 12/31/15 ? And if that happened, I could be wrong but, civil service law would prevent it. Anyone hired at 34k would at the very least jump to the new 45k hiring rate. That topic came up when the Jan 07 class was hired at 34k and then supposed to jump to 65k in 2008. But thankfully the PBA negotiated a 45k step into the contract and shoved it up the A$$ of the Jan 07 class. Thanks JC!

One more class will definitely go in before this list expires as they have to get one of upper echelon's kid hired before it expires.

True on both counts....if not hired prior to 4/1/14 then the list expires and all those people waiting to go in are SOL...and yes the chief of dept's kid is up next!!

Pay is frozen. There will be no increases until we win the lawsuit or make a deal. The starting pay will be staying at 35 grand.

Effective 12/31/15, Step 2 becomes Step 1. It has not happened yet. No civil service title has gotten an increase in pay since the freeze started. Even when starting pay was supposed increase it has not. I don't know why people are so insistsnt on spread bad information.

I was not offering an opinion, one way or the other.

You should speak your piece. There are alot of trolls, wannabes, shills, and some Union members. They all don't know!! Speak your piece.

I don't have a dog in this fight, but I would think NIFA's freeze would trump whatever the MOA states. As it is now NIFA is usurping the MOA and the current contract so why would that discontinue in 2015/2016? I don't see any reason for it to end due to this alone, the only way I see it ending is if & when NIFA decides to end it, in this current climate who knows when that will be.

Only people getting pay raises are the people in non union positions because title changes are not covered... Don't think the sunset is gona matter... Sorry Brotha...

Again the classes that have been fvcked over the most!
