That was pretty despicable. I hope his opponent uses that video in his next campaign commercial for the next election.

Mayor's comment on moment of silence
First, let me apologize.
As public servants, we are deeply saddened by the loss of Detective Hobbs and grieve along with his family, friends and fellow police officers.
I was caught off-guard by this citizen’s request for a moment of silence during his public comment. It wasn’t appropriate to turn over the City Council agenda to an individual during the public comment portion of the meeting, but I see why people are interpreting this as a sign of disrespect.
No disrespect was intended.
It is our policy to acknowledge and express our thoughts about these matters at the beginning of the meeting and I take personal responsibility for that omission.
We did observe a moment of silence for Detective Hobbs as a Council item at the end of the meeting.
I saw the video of it. The mayor was like a deer in the headlights and did not know what to do and messed up BIG time. To his credit he apologized publicly said he was wrong that there was no moment of silence at the start of the meeting and had one at the end of it. And he is not some bleeding heart member of the Liberal party. I think he just screwed up and is now trying to make up for it.

I wrote the mayor and this was his response. At least he has the decency to acknowledge his mistake unlike our elected officials. Here it is:
I messed up, and I am deeply sorry.
I am sorry for handling the citizen’s request during public comment the way I did. I am sorry that we didn’t honor Det. Hobbs at the beginning of the meeting – to put it simply, I dropped the ball.
I recognize that my actions have offended police officers everywhere.
I am sorry that this story has taken attention away from the loss of Det. Hobbs and the wounding of his partner, Det. Casados. Their bravery and sacrifice should not take second place to anything.
I am mortified that the families of these courageous officers may have suffered one ounce of additional pain, or one more second of grief due to this.
While I absolutely meant no disrespect by choosing to allow the moment of silence at the end of the meeting as opposed to the beginning, I take full responsibility for my actions and offer my sincere apology for any heartache this has caused.
I will do everything I can to make up for my disrespectful misstep.
Thank you for contacting me and sharing your personal experiences. I am sorry that my actions has caused to have a poor image of Scottsdale.
Respectfully,
Jim Mayor
