Cops: Lindenhurst Man Charged With DUI After Fleeing From Police\
A Lindenhurst man was arrested Saturday afternoon in Brentwood after he fled from police in a stolen vehicle while high on drugs, then swiped a bicycle to continue his escape, Suffolk County police said.
Police said Michael Mills, 29, was driving a 1997 Ford Explorer at Suffolk Avenue and Brentwood Road when an officer tried to pull him over around 4 p.m.
Mills drove away, police said. The vehicle ended up flipped on its side a short distance away.
As an officer tried to arrest Mills, he struggled and got free, then ran away, stealing a bicycle from a Prospect Avenue home to aid in his getaway, police said.
Police overtook Mills on Prospect Avenue and arrested him.
Mills was charged with first-degree operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, third-degree fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle, reckless driving, resisting arrest, second-degree criminal impersonation, second-degree assault with intent to cause physical injury to an officer, fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property for the Ford Explorer, and petit larceny for the bicycle theft.
Mills also was charged with first-degree robbery in connection with a March 3 incident in Bay Shore. Police said he hit a man with a baseball bat and stole his wallet.
At his arraignment on Sunday, Mills was ordered held on $36,500 cash bail or $102,000 bond. He is due back in court on Friday.
