I knew a lot of those guys. It's a shame how many of them have passed already. What's also a shame is how the politicians have gutted a once proud and innovative Police Department. We were once on the cutting edge of Law Enforcement. We were a Department that others sought to emulate. Now we're lucky if we have toilet paper in the bathrooms.

It's sad once you realize the Dept once had 4000 in its ranks; and seeing it now nearly decimated.

It's sad once you realize the Dept once had 4000 in its ranks; and seeing it now nearly decimated. Great video and first post liny, welcome aboard. There's so much in there that I could comment on. I was one of those 4000. They showed some shots of footmen making their rounds. That was possible with 4000 Cops. There could be 10 or more footmen on midnights in a precinct and the bosses resisted doubling up cars even with that extra manpower available. Now, the job couldn't afford foot patrol. Guys today don't even know what a footman was.

I was a "footman" for two years before I got a seat in a car. That was the way you moved up in the "Ranks" I had a "paper post: on my car post and it was manned quite often on the 12x8 because the desk officers had to use the man power on that tour. Its a wonder from what I read there are enough men to just cover the car posts. today. I recognized a few guys in the film and in the photo of Lindberg standing with a few people, the motorcycle guy way at the left was on the job in the old fifth when I came on the job and he had the original photo of him self. He was quite proud of it. I'm sure Belcher's father Gene told him about Artie Wheelwright, a legend at the Fitth now long gone. Just my two cents woth!!!
