From The PBA Website:
UNITY RALLY!
Join us on October 17th in front of the County Executive Building at 1550 Franklin Avenue in Mineola as we fight to STOP ED MANGANO and his UNAMERICAN, UNCONSTITUTIONAL, LEGISLATION.
The PBA along with the CSEA, DAI, SOA, Shoa have tentatively scheduled a Rally for October 17th at 11am in front of the County Executive's building located at 1550 Franklin Ave in Mineola. The Long Island Federation of Labor and many other unions throughout the State will join us in fighting local legislation proposed by County Executive Ed Mangano.
This legislation if passed and upheld in the courts would be more lethal than legislation enacted in Wisconsin and other States that reduce the scope of future collective bargaining. This proposed legislation is designed to open existing contracts, something the United States Constitution expressly prohibits.
This is not only an attack on union workers but it is a direct attack our constitutional rights.
Join us in our efforts to bring sanity back to Nassau County government.

Here's Eds reaction: Mangano To Unions: Get Your Butts To The Negotiation Table In response to comments made by Nassau County’s public employee unions, County Executive Edward P. Mangano today issued the following statement: “Rather than waste members’ dues on t-shirts and juvenile signs, union leaders would serve their members responsibly by getting their butts to the negotiation table. The fact remains if union bosses fail to negotiate more of their members will lose their jobs or will be furloughed. It is a sad day in America when union bosses are arrogant enough to claim that asking for concessions is “Anti-American.” Tell that to the veterans of World War II who are struggling to pay their property taxes. Tell that to the soldiers of Vietnam, Korea, Iraq and Afghanistan who struggle to live in Nassau County. How dare Nassau’s union bosses insult anyone who is fighting for lower taxes! I continue to offer union bosses the opportunity to negotiate; however, I will not give in to threats. I stand with the residents of Nassau County who are struggling to make ends meet. Nothing is more American than that. Simply put, Jim Carver’s PBA fails to recognize that residents do not sympathize with members’ who earn six-figure salaries, work 3 days a week and receive 61 paid days off a year. While we value police officers bravery and dedication, taxpayers cannot afford a 39% property tax hike to provide free health insurance and educational pay when no educational enhancement is required.” www.nassaucountyny.gov/agencies/CountyExecutive/NewsRelease/2010/10-17-2011a.htm

The snipers weren't there for Mangano's safety. They were there for OUR safety. When ever there is a large assembly of Police Officers in one location, there are always snipers and sniper observers. Every "Line of Duty" funeral has snipers deployed. Today, it was for us and all the other union members. These type of rallys always attracts radicals.

Politicians and the media have no shame when they start the spin machine. Mangano left out the fact that those 3 day weeks are 12 hour days and the average, semi informed citizen will never know the truth. Just another attempt to sway public opinion against the PBA.
