Editorial Nassau should pay Jo'Anna Bird familyOriginally published: December 2, 2011 7:24 PM Updated: December 4, 2011 10:05 PM ................"It's difficult to evaluate the settlement because Ciampoli successfully persuaded the federal court not to release a 700-page internal police report that reportedly named Bird's killer as a police informant. The report, which Newsday had petitioned to be made public, led to the disciplining of seven police officers."...................... What is going on here? Could it be that the Cops really didn't do anything wrong and the public will go nuts when they find out that 7.7 million of their money will be just given away?

Too late on this one. Mulvey sold the cops involved down the river long ago, making the end result of a lawsuit a foregone conclusion.

everyone thinks it was all the fault of the cops anyway; we're on the hook, no matter what, correct? why not make the report public so everyone can see that the victim repeatedly refused to cooperate, and confirm stories that the mother also aided in the victim's demise?

I agree. I have no idea what they accused the Cops of doing or not doing but I do know that the job takes these domestics very seriously and most of the time, all uniform has to do is to fill out the 99, DCJS or whatever it's called now and arrest if necessary. The procedure is very clear. It seems unlikely that so many Cops and supervisors would stick their necks out and not do the right thing with a chronic situation such as that one.
