A 36-year-old off-duty Nassau County correction officer was killed in a single-car accident Tuesday on the Southern State Parkway near the Rockville Centre-South Hempstead border, State Police said. The identity of the officer has not been released pending notification of next of kin. Police said the crash occurred at 12:01 a.m. on the westbound Southern State just east of Exit 19, Peninsula Boulevard. Police said the car, a Toyota Camry, veered off the parkway and into a wooded area, striking trees. Police said the car suffered "severe damage." The officer was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the road was closed until 2:50 a.m. for the accident investigation. The cause of the crash has not been determined. www.newsday.com/long-island/nassau/nassau-correction-officer-36-dies-in-crash-1.3385595

Unless you've dealt with NYC Corrections, you don't realize how good Nassau County Corrections is. They were always gentlemen any time I had to deal with them. R.I.P.

Unless you've dealt with NYC Corrections, you don't realize how good Nassau County Corrections is. They were always gentlemen any time I had to deal with them. R.I.P. I have personal experience there. Before I got on my PD, I was a NYC Correction Officer and then a Nassau County Correction Officer, and the difference between those two jobs is like night and day! In NYC, I worked on Rikers and sometimes I felt I was working with perps who just happen to be on the outside of the bars. When I got to Nassau, it was another whole experience. The guys I worked with were great. If I hadn't gotten on the PD, I wouldn't have been that upset about staying there. RIP to my brother officer. Very sad, all these tragedies right before Christmas!

I've never actually met a Nassau Correction Officer, except maybe in District Court (If that's the guys who work there)...........That also means I've never had them bustin' up a bar or driving drunk, sideways down Carman Ave............That's a good thing.........
Sad to read the news about the Officer in question.............Rest in Peace Brother.....
