NYPD: Man with fake beard fired at cops December 17, 2011 by THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
New York City police are searching for a man who opened fire on two officers in Queens while dressed in a black trench coat, glasses and a fake beard.
Police tell the Daily News of New York the man refused to remove his hands from his pockets when officers confronted him on Dec. 2. He pulled a black pistol from his pocket and fired two shots, narrowly missing the officers, then fled and shed his disguise. Police matched DNA found on the fake glasses to a convicted felon named Antonio Olmeda.
Olmeda served about four years in prison for weapons charges after he was found with an arsenal in his van including swords, pipe bombs and assault weapons. Police are asking anyone with information to call the tips hot line at 1-800-577-TIPS.

Fake-beard fugitive wanted for attempted murder on two Queens cops
Bizarre perp once caught with a flame thrower after soliciting sex from an undercover cop BY JOHN DOYLE NEW YORK DAILY NEWS
Handout Police are hunting for a disguised bandit who opened fire on them in Queens.
NYPD Antonio Olmeda, 53, suspect in the attempted murder of a police officer.
Police are hunting for an armed and extremely dangerous fugitive wanted for opening fire - at point-blank range — on two Queens cops.
Antonio Olmeda, 53, dressed in a black trench coat, glasses and a fake beard, refused to remove his hands from his pockets as officers confronted him in Jackson Heights on Dec. 2.
Instead of complying, he pulled a black pistol from his pocket and fired two shots at close range, narrowly missing the officers, then took off running - shedding his disguise, said police.
When investigators matched the DNA found on the bridge his glasses DNA from a state database they discovered a lengthy and bizarre criminal history going back to 1994, said a police source.
Olmeda was arrested in October of that year in the Bronx, after he offered an undercover police officer posing as a prostitute $10 for sex, said a police source.
Inside his van, cops found an arsenal of weapons including a flame-thrower, 18 pipe bombs, a shotgun with a laser sight, assorted swords, machetes, handcuffs, a bullet proof vest and a gas mask along with 12 clips of ammunition for Uzi sub machine guns and 1,000 rounds of illegal Black Tallon bullets, said the source.
Olmeda has three other arrests for drug possession in New York City, the source said.
He served about four years in prison for the weapons charge and he was paroled in October 1998.
He was arrested again in June 2002, after he was caught with more than 200 rounds of ammunition and a book about snipers inside a Greyhound bus station in Fayetteville, N.C.
A man called police after Olmeda had asked him about security at the nearby Fort Bragg military base, according to published reports.
“This guy is a bad, bad guy” said a police source.
His last known address was in Shirley, L.I., said a police source.
The organization COP SHOT is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Olmeda.
“Money on the street talks. There’s always someone willing to provide information to collect $10,000 cash reward and in this economy, who couldn’t use an extra $10,000 in cash?” said John Provetto, the organization’s director.
Anyone with information is asked to call the confidential tipline 1-800-COP-SHOT of the NYPD TIPS hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS.

NYPD arrests suspect in fake beard shooting By JAMIE SCHRAM and LORENA MONGELLI Last Updated: 4:48 PM, December 19, 2011 Posted: 4:28 PM, December 19, 2011 More Print He was no master of disguise. Police today collared the bizarrely dressed gunman who shot at two cops in Queens while donning a fake beard and dark glasses earlier this month, law-enforcement sources said. Armed with DNA evidence -- from the glasses he tossed away while fleeing -- police tracked down ex-con Antonio Olmeda, 53, in a vehicle in East Harlem on 115th Street and First Avenue. "They spotted a vehicle he was supposed to be in. They sat on the car. They hit him with the element of surprise,” a law-enforcement source said. Police recovered two loaded weapons from his car -- but not before also stumbling on what looked like a potential explosive device that turned out to be a toggle switch. DCPI Antonio Olmeda “He was in the car. He kind of meant business,” a source said. “He was pretty shocked." The short-fused Olmeda was wanted from a Dec. 2 incident in which he was seen sporting a dark trench coat, hat and sunglasses and acting suspiciously on 77th Street in Queens. When police approached and asked him to remove his hands from his pockets, he instead whipped out a black revolver and squeezed the trigger two times, missing the officers but sending one bullet into a dental office packed with children. Olmeda then quickly shed his disguise but was captured fleeing the scene on nearby surveillance video. Police recovered DNA on his glasses that matched the ex-con's already in the state’s crime database. The suspect was arrested in 1994 for patronizing a prostitute. He also served four years in prison for weapons possession from 1995 to 1998 after being caught with a flame-thrower, 18 pipe bombs, shotgun w/laser sight, machetes and gas mask. Olmeda also was busted in North Carolina in 2002 carrying 200 rounds of ammo and a book about snipers while asking about security at Fort Bragg, sources said.
