Anyone out there have News12, & if so can you post the article (not the link) that talks about Steve Bellone giving Hwy back to the SCPD. I am unable to access it being that I have Fios, & I can't get it by googling it. Thx  |

Suffolk Exec.-elect Bellone: County police 'dysfunctional'
(12/21/11) WOODBURY - He hasn't been sworn into office yet, but County Executive-elect Steve Bellone (D-Suffolk) has already identified his top priority: Getting the police department back on track.
Bellone says one of his goals is to improve relationships between the county's law enforcement departments.
"The police department is demoralized and in many ways dysfunctional," he says.
Bellone's comments come just days after Suffolk District Attorney Thomas Spota publicly accused Police Commissioner Richard Dormer of mishandling the investigation into the Gilgo Beach murders.
But Bellone's concerns don't end there. He says County Executive Steve Levy's (R-Suffolk) decision to replace police patrols on the Long Island Expressway and Sunrise Highway with deputy sheriffs pitted the two departments against each other.
In response, Levy released a statement saying that the move has saved the county money because sheriffs make less than police.
Among Bellone's other big priorities will be fighting the heroin epidemic in Suffolk and bringing down the gangs.

Hopefully we can oust Mangano and get a police supporter like Bellone. The Moral in the NCPD is as low as the credit rating.

^^^ I think you mean "morale", I hope Bellone will do right by us, but only time will tell. Hopefully he's not your "typical" politician & actually has some moral fiber & character.

Hopefully we can oust Mangano and get a police supporter like Bellone. Bellone being a Police supporter remains to be seen. He is going to be under great pressure to keep costs down. Perhaps he can make a case for SCPD HWY if he does an accurate cost analysis of the Sheriffs vs Hwy which includes Sheriff OT etc. Don't look for a quick return of Highway to the LIE. Bellone is going to have to build a good case first. |

12/22/11 - Suffolk County Executive-elect Steve Bellone said Tuesday that he will move to quickly stabilize a police department that has become, "in some ways, dysfunctional."
OK Mr. Bellone, elaborate and tell us in what ways the SCPD is dysfunctional." The men and women of the SCPD do a great job holding down the growing crime rate in Suffolk Co. This is not a way to endear yourself to the rank and file of the fine officers doing their best with gang violence, hate crimes, house invasions, etc.
It's the politicians that are truly dysfunctional.

He's referring to management & how the Dept. has been run, not the cop on the street, he's taking parting shots @ levy the douche & dormer the clown. Two retards who let this county & Dept. go down the toilet.
