I just got a E mail from another old guy I worked with. He was asking me if I had heard about any stopping of the Medicare checks that us old guys get. Any one in Nassau ( I'm in Florida) heard a rumor about this? I have no contacts in New York.

Nope, I haven't heard any rumors or threats concerning the payment. As far as I know it hasn't even been discussed. It would be illegal anyway. They can't reduce medical benefits for retired guys. There is legal precedent and any attempt to do so would end in failure.

I re-read my benifits package when I heard this, and I too thought it was illegal to do. The stuff I have is over 30 yrs old .The guy who e mailed me lives over on the other coast from me and he still has connections in Nassau. Just thought I would check with the older guys here.

Haven't received anything yet. Maybe they are holding them back until the new year to get interest on the money?

Someone I know called the County Comptroller's Office this morning..............The checks are going out today.............They come in December and July every year.........I have been getting them since I retired and got Social Security Disability and Medicare.......
Now that my wife is on Social Security we get more money in each check to reflect what she had to pay from her Social Security checks all year....
THESE CHECKS ARE NOT ILLEGAL AND THE BENEFIT WAS PART OF MY RETIREMENT PACKAGE IN 1988.............I GET CLOSE TO 3,000 BUCKS A YEAR, SPLIT INTO TWO CHECKS...........THE COUNTY IS REPAYING ME FOR THE MEDICAL PART OF MEDICARE WHICH I PAY FOR EACH MONTH WHEN THE FED'S WITHHOLD MONEY FROM MY SS CHECK...........I GET IT ALL BACK AND SO DO A LOT OF OLDER GUYS.........

Thanks a bunch for the update. My wife turns 65 next July and a $90 odd dollar hit on her small SS check with out be repaid twice a year would be a kick in the behind I kinda count on mine this time of the year to help with the cost of Christmas.

SO EVERYONE UNDERSTANDS...................The County agreed to pay for the Medical portion of Medicare for some guys that retired from Tier One (And other tiers also, I guess).........
The checks we are talking about have always been mailed out to us in July and December each year.......The money is to reimburse us for the cost of the Medical benefit that comes with Medicare when you reach 65 or you get SS Disability, like I have.......They take some money out of each SS Check that you and your wife get..............The County replaces that money.........
No one is trying to cut benefits here, it's just that the checks are late this year and that pisses of some very old cops that already have that cash spent at some "All you can eat" Lobster Bar.........
Thanks, Nassau County, You've always put your workers on a pedestal.....This year the pedestal is just inserted a little further up my colon............
