Witnesses: Suspect May Have Been Involved in Drug Deal
BALDWIN — A police officer on foot was hit by a driver Wednesday afternoon after an attempted drug deal, according to police. Officers say Lavarr Cannon pulled up a curb on Grand Avenue to buy marijuana from a man on the street. When he saw police approaching him, Cannon put the car in reverse, then hit the officer as he pulled away, officers said. As Cannon fled he hit two parked cars, then abandoned his car. He was caught and now faces several charges, including attempted murder.
The injured officer is expected to be OK.
