A Nassau police officer shot and killed a pit bull in Roosevelt early Sunday morning after the canine attacked his partner, Nassau police said.
The two officers were responding to a call of gunshots fired at 318 Park Ave. when the white pit bull, which was in the yard and not tied, charged the officers, police said. The pit bull bit one of the officers on both his thighs, police said. The officer was treated at a nearby hospital and released.
Police said the investigation of the shots-fired report recovered numerous shell casings from a .380-caliber gun in the yard. Police do not know who fired the shots and are asking anyone with information regarding the incident to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. Police said all calls will be kept confidential.

Just by reading the headline before coming into the thread, it's easy to figure out where this happened.

At first glance I was thinking the same thing, perhaps in New Cassel. This doesn't happen in Plandome or East Norwich...
