Thanks for the info brother. Its a tough decision but the more I hear about whats going on....the more risky it seems. There are also too many unanswered questions. If I get hired and they unfreeze and then freeze everyone before I hit the 1 year mark I could be stuck at 34k for years to come. Lets say I get stuck at 34k for 3 years and then I get unfrozen....would I automatically get put at 3 year pay step or would I start the whole stretch to top pay? No one knows the answers to these questions I would think long and hard about switching. Nassau finances are getting worse. Do you work days or nights? If you like nighs you will love being a rookie here. You will be stuck on 4x 10 hour tours for a few years. 7pm-5am, 4 on 4 off. If you were on the big job it's a no brainer. If I was MTA I'd stay. This USED to be a lotto ticket job. Now you have hundreds of people who don't even answer the letter. You have some who are sworn in and don't show. Good luck but the grass isn't always greener.

Smallville is right, an MTA cop made the switch to Nassau and went back. So between that, guys on the job and guys that are retired telling you to stay I think your decision should be somewhat easier. It's not going to get better here for some time.

Truthfully, do you really believe the Shvt storm on pay is ever going to end? Nassau is just a microcosm of the National picture.
Just sayin.....

Do you know of any mta police that switched over to ncpd?...i mean before this years hiring? There is one who is stuck in the steps and regretting it. The good thing about the MTA is that its the MTA. People seem to not care or be able to do anything about spending in the MTA. From the MTA cops I know you have tons of OT and no quotas with 12 hour tours. You have its pretty good...no reason to switch.

I never thought that I would have to actually think about the decision if I got called for nassau. Ncpd was always my first choice between the chart, salary and work locations.
5+ years ago it was a no brainer. You had city cops with 10+ years, city Sgts, and I've even heard of city Lt's switching over.

I made the switch 5 years ago, in the last class. I had 10 years in the city and was about to make boss. I thought it was a great switch at the time. If I had a crystal ball, I would have stayed. If I was getting the call now, there is NO way I would switch.

Hello all, first time posting here. Here's my background. I am currently a Special Agent with the Federal Government. I have been with the Feds for 7 years and I have grown to be frustrated with it. I am making about 120k right now with a take home car. The pension system on the Federal side isn't that good though and I am sick of the politics with the Feds and working under the Obama Administration, so I took the Nassau PD exam for a change of pace. Do you guys think I should pursue Nassau PD or stay where I am? Thanks

feddetective, let me get this straight. You're making a 120k/year with a TAKE HOME car, so you aren't paying for gas or putting miles on your own car. And you want to come to Nassau to be frozen at 34k/year for the unforeseeable future, with no take home car because you're sick of the politics?
This is a joke right?

Well, when I first took the test, I was told that top pay with you guys was 107k before overtime. This is the first I'm hearing about this frozen 34k rate. I just hate working under the Obama Administration, so I thought if I can find a job with the county that tops out at around the same rate as what I am currently making, it might be worth considering. How long is this pay freeze supposed to be in effect??
