For as long as I can remember NCPD was the better place you speak of.....
How do individuals get selected for the village police depts in nassau? I know that there are only about 4 that give preference to residents out of approx 18.
Have any NCPD MOS ever transferred to a village PD in nassau?

feddetective, by the way, welcome to PDCN Rant.
Don't mind the guys here, morale has been scrapping bottom in NCPD and we are also worried about the Obama administration.
Obama will be leaving in a few years so at least you have some hope of positive change in the future. We are not so sure if Nassau County will be out of the woods by then.
If you live in, or can move to, one of the incorporated villages in Nassau, it may be worth it to follow through on the Nassau hiring process and try for a job in one of the village departments. They aren't affected by the pay freeze and equal or exceed Nassau in pay and benefits.

Well, when I first took the test, I was told that top pay with you guys was 107k before overtime. This is the first I'm hearing about this frozen 34k rate. I just hate working under the Obama Administration, so I thought if I can find a job with the county that tops out at around the same rate as what I am currently making, it might be worth considering. How long is this pay freeze supposed to be in effect?? Is your job that bad that you'd be willing to take a 34K salary a year indefinitely? You asked people if you should stay or go, and I think all of the posts here give you a clear answer on what you should do.

Feddetective I am assuming you took the last test in 2007, I don't know where you've been since then but we had something called an economic collapse that started in 2008. Nothing is the same as it was in 2007. Public servants especially cops have been set up as the patsys for this collapse and anyone who dare mentions making 107,000 will be stoned, tarred and feathered and don't even tell anyone you have a pension and health Insurance. If you have a job that makes 120 and a take home car count your blessing and keep it quiet before anyone finds out !

Thanks for all the responses. I hope things get better for you guys soon. You have a tough job and deserve to be compensated accordingly. We have quite a few locals on our Federal Task Force, they are mostly NYPD guys. I see how those guys are suffering as well. I guess the damage caused by Obama has trickled into Nassau County as well.

ncpdhopeful and feddetective .... plain and simple - Don't take this job. Don't waste your time 'going through the process.' The once great and mighty nassau county 'job' is no more. The county does not care about its cops. This job is a pittance of what it once was. The 'economic collapse' that baysidepd blames is absolute nonsense as it relates to Nassau County. To remind folks, we are the victims of politicans who purposely manufactured and created this localized 'financial emergency' in order to get NIFA to freeze our salaries for 3 years running now. This is what happens when u refuse to raise taxes a small amount each year to pay for basic costs, but instead spend millions on turf fields, contracts for your buddies, and b.s. patronage positions. There is no 'collapse' here in Nassau, just a deliberate attack against civil service WORKERS (not servants) who just expected to be paid for the job we perform. Keep it goin Ed!

If my kid was on MTA or a Fed job making a buck twenty I would tell him to stay where he is because the financial problems are not going away any time soon.
You guys do realize you will be working nights for a few years?

Thank you for all the responses
Im not making that kind of money just yet. I am at first year pay with the MTAPD that's why I am considering it. I dont mind working the night tour. I would actually prefer that.
Once this freeze is lifted will current MOS jump to where there are suppose to be or would they resume at the step they were prior to the freeze?

Contrary to other Interim Finance Authorities, ie. Buffalo, it is the PBA's legal opinion that you will be returned to where you should be minus the freeze. The job is still good, the working conditions are good, the schedule is great, and in many of the areas within Nassau, the people generally want you around and respect you. If you can deal with the uncertainty of a freeze for the unforeseeable future, then I say go for it, its a great job.

PBA says you go where you should. County, with style and dignity wants us to perform a sexual act on ourselves.
If the PBA and County don't cut a deal this will be tied up in court, too.

Ok for the love of God, if you want to take a job that in all likelihood will have its steps and salary frozen for the next who knows how many years than take the job. It's great 34k on Long Island is fine, you'll get yourself a 5 bedroom home in Rockville Centre or Garden City. New truck, shvt buy 2. Kids, have 4. Taxes, fvck that your bringing home 1k every two weeks you'll have at least 16 grand left over to last you the rest of the year. Vacations, buy a few time shares in Hawaii, very cheap. Now imagine if you make it to the 45k pay scale, shvt open a bank and start lending that green out! We will probably win the lawsuit, the troops will probably be bumped up to where we should all be, and almost simultaneously the NYS legislature will be voting to give Nifa proper authority to freeze salaries once again. Feel free to work for peanuts, but don't say guys on here didn't warn you. Albeit facetiously at times.

doughnut hit's the nail on the head LOL! Unfortunately that's the truth. If you're just starting off, and have no other option then Nassau is an ok choice. But if you're already in a good gig like the MTAPD with a 12hr chart, and the potential for 120k/year, or a Fed job with a take home car and 120k/year then why RISK it?
I just don't think many people realize that it's 34k/year for the unforeseeable future! Imagine leaving your current job for Nassau and 3 years later you're still barely getting by making 34k when you could of still be with the feds/mtapd or whatever making bank!
Like doughnut said, this is LONG ISLAND...unless you plan on living off food stamps and ramen noodles, the warning has been made.

Hearing all of this about you guys being stuck at 34k is truly sad. Growing up, NCPD was always the place to be. Everyone aspired to get on with this Dept. I hope things get better for you guys soon. 34k a year is an insult. I remember when NYPD was making 25k a few years back. There were cops who were eligible for food stamps they were making so little. I am glad I had the foresight to come on this board and find out the REAL deal, instead of what is just advertised in the recruitment brochure.
