So far I just took the exam. I have not begun the process yet. I want to prepare myself now if and when I do get called, so I don't waste anyone's time.

They are processing exam 7000, from 4 1/2 plus years ago. List is extended til Oct.
You still have to get a grade, pass, and score high. GL you might have 10 plus years or better on your job when and if they call.
I would start reading the Newspaper re; NCPD/Nassau/Finances so are up to speed if called.

So let me get this straight, you just took one of the most Highly competitive exams in the country & you come on here asking if you should take the job, a job you have absolutely NO clue will ever even be offered to you & you're supposedly a detective for the feds and then you get your panties all in a bunch when you're told something you don't want to hear You should have stuck to your own words & taken off deFective but as we ALL know for the most part that's something the feds just Can"t do. ps- Don't worry, you asking these questions @ this time ("I have not begun the process yet") isn't a waste of anyone's time.

A couple US of olde timers find it kinda troubling or odd to have some one refer to themselves as FedDetective .Agent, special agent, operative, investagator are the terms that WE remember being used to discribe ones position in the federal system in that type or proffesion. Sounds kinda cloudy, if you get my drift.....
Just sayin......

Being a G-Man is very secret stuff. A lot of cloak and dagger, remember that? Maybe he's being cautious.

Can any of you guys give me some advice. I have 10 years prior time and 6 years on the county. I'm stuck in the steps and am confused at what to do with an offer I received. Last week I was offered a job to judge swimsuit competitions around the world. The starting pay is $2000 dollars an hour, guaranteed 30 hours a week. Only drawback is I have to purchase health insurance for me and the family. The signing bonus is $500,000 with a guarantee of 5 years of employment. If I am let go I get full pay severance for whatever time I was guaranteed. Travel expenses and food all fully paid for. Ohh and the wife believes cheating isn't cheating if your not in the same country. Should I stick out the last 4 years and hope I get to top pay or should I take the chance and leave. Sorry could not resist.

I think you are the one who is defective with your reading comprehension skills!

There were NYPD Lieutenants who were making the same or more than I am who went over to Nassau, so I why is it so far fetched that I might be considering the same move???

Just as I thought, you couldn't point it out. If you were on the stand testifying, and I cross examined you, I would have just gotten you laughed out of the courtroom Officer!

Just as I thought, you couldn't point it out. If you were on the stand testifying, and I cross examined you, I would have just gotten you laughed out of the courtroom Officer! Hello all, first time posting here. Here's my background. I am currently a Special Agent with the Federal Government. I have been with the Feds for 7 years and I have grown to be frustrated with it. I am making about 120k right now with a take home car. The pension system on the Federal side isn't that good though and I am sick of the politics with the Feds and working under the Obama Administration, so I took the Nassau PD exam for a change of pace. Do you guys think I should pursue Nassau PD or stay where I am? Thanks The above is your opening statement, you sound like an elitist schmuck, "NCPD as a change of pace", why don't you get off your high horse you douchebag. Your last sentence "Do you guys think I should pursue Nassau PD or stay where I am?" what are you trying to infer is it not seeking the possibility of taking the NCPD job? That's pretty presumptious of you don't you think being that you have only taken the entry exam & don't even know if you scored high enough let alone passed the test? Oh, I forgot you're a fed deFective & the job will bow down to you & accept you with all the pomp & circumstance afforded royalty. I would love to have a clown like you cross examine me on the stand I will make you look like the fool that everyone here knows you are. PS in the future you should until you have nearly completed the process, till then keep checking those receipts

Fed, I was a top pay Sgt and I left. That was prior to the economic collapse. Currently I have lost approx $250,000 in pay due to the switch and freeze. I used much of my 457 to get me by the leaner years of 34 k and 45 k. It was my choice to leave I knew I would be losing money but gaining some sense of sanity. Well so I thought. Do you have any idea what its like going from making 115- 120k with OT to 34 or 45 k. Do you know the financial strain that puts on you, your family. My mortgage did not go down, nor my taxes or everyday bills. However I knew that going in so it was what it was. What I did not know was my pay would be frozen for an indefinite amount of time, my pension affected, my peace of mind not so at peace. Coupled with being threatened with 2 layoffs I'm sure you get my point. If you feel as though you can make it going from 120k to 34k with the fact your pay will be frozen, (I guarantee the NYS leg will vote to give Nifa proper auth to freeze us again) then come on over. Give me your fax ill send you a copy of my pay stub when I was at 34k. Look at it, keep it and understand that's what you will make year after year. But first you have to pass the test, score high enough to get called and then wait. If that does happen and you decide to switch then put your name on the private list. If you ask me now if I would have made the switch, yes if they never froze the pay, but hindsight is 20/20 and you and everyone else out there have facts and information that many of us who made the switch did not have at the time. I don't care what anyone on here says it comes down to being able to pay the bills.
