One thing I disagree with here is the notion of let's keep killing them in OT. It sounds good but not every command is as short as the 1st pct. I'm in the OT book every night and haven't gotten a 12 hour hit in over a month. Once the summer ends, so does the OT in my command. So the bottom line is I gotta get out of steps and can't rely on OT to pay the bills. This roller coaster ride has been an absolute nightmare. I'm aware of that; it's not all that great in my precinct either. Unfortunately, it's the only option available at this point. To create the amount of savings nifa wants, the only thing i can think of is do away with minimum manning or take a salary cut from where top pay is supposed to be or will be, both of which i'm unwilling to do, and i'm comfortable saying the majority of the membership will be unwilling to do. Nifa has already stated they won't pay retro and they consider deferrals (holidays, equipment check etc) as not real recurring savings, but rather kicking the can down the road. So taking all of that into consideration, what option do we have? Pay into health care? Once that starts, the % paid in goes up nearly every year. What starts out as 10% will be 30-35% before you know it. Give up minimum manning? That's the one thing that keeps guys from getting laid off; without minimum manning we don't need as many cops; also our safety will be jeaopardized when they decide to put out 12 cars instead of 20 something cars. Not to mention the workload would increase exponentially. More 68's? Not realistic. We always tell the public we need more cops on the street; now we'll put out less for more money? I don't see that happening. MOA days? I'm sure nifa and the county would love those back; but are we willing to give up that flexibity for years to come? It's nice to know we can get a day when we need it. Vacation percentage? That is feasible to a degree, but it was included in this deal, and obviously they want more things coupled with it. I would suggest splitting the % allowed off per day evenly between day and night. If a comand is allowed 10 off per day on vacation, a split of 5 from night 5 from day would save alot going forward. But day/night vacation split like that meets lots resistance from senior cops. All of the above is just my opinion and i don't see alot of appealing options at this point.

Can not give up minimum manning or health care period. Guys stuck in steps need to figure an alternative out and quickly. There are about 550 of us stuck, if we were to have a case and hire a lawyer, the cost would be minimal if spread out over all of us. Not to mention if the county hires our numbers will only grow. Who needs a financial collapse, when you can join the NCPD.

We need a Suffolk deal if they want recurring savings. Stretch top pay to 12 years with a reduced top pay of $125,000 instead of $140,000. It's the only way to get a deal through.

I don't disagree, but I don't think these dopes at Nifa even see that. It appears as they want it from us and want it badly.

My take from Carvers latest copy and paste email that tells us absolutly nothing yet again is that nothing will get done until the new year when Marlin is out of nifa. We get it Jimmy u got new people into nifa. You tell us that in every email..NOW tell us what u are doing to ge us unfrozen..I'm so sick of these bs emails he sends us.

Another reason that a seperate lawsuit should be explored for the members stuck in steps is that there is a greater portion of members stuck in steps in the precincts that have the greatest amount of overtime..... which equals the county paying less to man the posts in these precincts.

If Carver thinks he's going to get re-elected by just reiterating how he got new people into nifa, he will be in for a rude awakening when the election results come back in. I don't want to hear what he is trying to do, I want to see results and for the past 3 years, we haven't seen any.

Can not give up minimum manning or health care period. I wholeheartedly agree. I just threw those out there because i'm sure the county/nifa would love to have em, and because i've heard some guys talk about "who cares? We'll eventually pay into healthcare so give it to em" and "give up minimum manning? I don't care, i just want my money". Some folks just can't see past the dollar signs.

Some folks just can't see past the dollar signs. unfortunately going forward the new hires will be paying into healthcare, I don't see anyway around that. We should attempt to mirror a Suffolk deal for new hires and keep pay and healthcare intact for those already on. I know guys are not fans of more 68s but we have to figure out how to get it done without your pay suffering. Vacation pics by day tour and night tour are also an option. I would not be happy with taking OT hours in straight time but as I've stated before do you spite your nose and chop off your face? And as far as whoever will represent the PBA on the exec board, I personally don't think its going to make a difference as Nifa is going to dictate terms, not the PBA. Unfortunately it's not like it used to be and it's changed dramatically in such a short time. Here's the county and nifas take, you don't like it, too fvcking bad there is nothing you can do about it.

I think you guys are in for a rude awakening. After seeing the lopsided "yes" vote for the contract I think Jimmy will win by a landslide.

I'm most likely running for Carver as well. Even with all this nonsense going on, I still feel he is trying to help everyone out of this mess. Do I feel that he could have done more for guys in steps? Yes I do! With that being said team O'reilly have not stated anything concerning guys in steps & I have tried to get this answer through a bunch of different people. And someone who is in steps, Ron Moore, has now dropped out. I still feel there should be some new blood so I'm voting for Cortes who I know will fight & go to war for us.
