interesting timing on the november 4th conditional offers of employment, considering myself and several other applicants got letters from villages the next day! this seems so wrong. Don't get me wrong i intended on taking the job but it would have at least been nice to have the option of interviewing for a village that means i dont need to do another academy and im not frozen! well played ncpd

my worry is that theyll keep me off the village list and then won't hire like they did in 2010, hopefully shvt gets moving and everybody gets unfrozen!

Patrol guy did you sign and return the conditional letter from the county? If not you can request to be taken off the county list and call village depts to see who is hiring and let them know your name. I had a few friends of mine that were much smarter than me who did so and drive new cars now, pay their mortgage on time, have babysitters so they can go out to dinner with their wife more than once a month, etc etc. Get my point. Do not county on a deal being done, don't do it, do not sacrifice one ounce of your time or money for this job at this point. There are wayyyy to many uncertainties.

With your screen name as patrolguy06 I am assuming you are a city guy. Are u nuts coming out here? You do realize that it looks like NIFA won't approve any deals and you will be stuck at 34k till who knows when, most likely many many years.

Hey Patrolguy - shred the county's letter, and call those villages. DO NOT TAKE THIS JOB.

There is no advantage to this job over a village.

i'm assuming most of you if not all of you are already on the job and a lot of you have city experience. I'll give you my background. I have 8 years of experience in a busy bklyn north precinct doing patrol and anti crime. At this point seeing what the city is like, getting the call for here is something i'm seriously considering. my wife makes good money so paying the bills with some overtime out here is something i think i'll be ok with for a while at least. i understand the uncertainty of this job right now but again i'm trying to make the best decision for the long run. I know this job is one that most people do for 25 plus years and my job is a completely 20 and out job. I still love doing what I do but the politics and the stress of being where I am plus the commute and the schedule I think this is something that would be good for me even if I'm taking a money hit. I know this job isn't perfect and I know a lot of you are struggling to pay your bills and going through a lot and I feel for you guys I really do. With that said I would like to take a village job but do not want to pass up the county job either, is there any way i can interview w/ the villages without passing the county job if i already signed my COE? If anybody has a good answer I'd appreciate it. Thanks for listening to my rant

I made that decision 5 years ago. I had 10 years on and was getting made boss. If I had a crystal ball back then I would be a lot happier in the city right now. This job is great, but a lot of things are uncertain out here.

As a former city guy w some time on, I wouldn't suggest coming here. First off NIFA is here to stay. Even in the miracle that a deal happens, NIFA will come back & freeze us all at the end of the deal, say 2017. So u would be where I am now, stuck in steps for a long time. City also has variable supp which we don't & that is huge. City is also a 1 year best year for your pension. Here it is avg of your 3 consecutive best years...when I transferred here I never heard of nifa. At the time I thought it was a no brainer. But u get to have all the facts before making your decision. And even though we are short on guys, they can always hold u hostage & then u have to fear of being laid off. Another huge issue is health care. Coming here out health care is not locked in & if u come after that proposed deal, you will be paying into health care & your pension. Good luck!

If he has 8 years on with the city he will not be paying into the pension when he transfers to NCPD. He will be put into tier 2 non contributory pension in the PFRS.
Once you sign the conditional offer of employment with NCPD you can no longer be interviewed by a village. For example you signed your COE on the Nov 4th and you got a letter from a village today. The first thing they will ask you when you sit for the interview is...did you sign a COE with nassau? Call the village and ask them. I signed the COE back on September 16th and now there's people with scores lower than me being called for villages.
