You know, getting gas, like the old days at local gas stations may solve the problems. If you have to go up to the attic in HQ just make sure you don't get a shirt with the old triangle NCPD patch on the shoulder. Any body remember seeing the old patch?
Just asking….

stillnosteps...that is why u haven't gotten your new vest...vendor told them no adjustments on ones out there and no new vests until the bill is paid. And the gas station thing would work...for a month, then the county would not pay the bill!!!!

A winter coat with green plaid liner is not a good sign either.

During my First year on the job,I turned in my "old" pea coat for a wool pea coat that had the green plaid lining. That was the "new" coat back then. I also turned in my black rain coat for a yellow raincoat and a yellow rain cover for my hat. The shields, at that time, still said "Patrolman" and you got a stripe after 5 years OTJ like a PFC in the Army…..We also got paid on the 1st and the 15th of the month back then, a big $5600.00 a year.
Times sure have changed…...

If true the used uniforms are pretty much stuff that was so bad it could no longer be worn.

The funny part is they're not kids. I saw some of them out in their "grays" the other day and they look they're 50 years old.

Grays? The only gray uniform I remember were Marine Bureau and Cadets. The guys at the range had Tan uniforms. You guys still have those big Blue riot helmets with the plastic face shield, in the blue draw string bag? Even after I got the Gold tin I had to keep a hat, a shirt, a tie,one pair of pants, a blouse and the riot helmet avaliable if called upon. They hung in a closit at home for almost 12 years till I retired.
More memories…..

Whiz, NCPD Retired, you guys remember the drop down stop signs by schools. I remember 2 sets one by the Smith Street School (19's post) in Bellmore and another at the Waltofffer Ave School (108's post) in N. Bellmore.

Coots, I remember rolling out school stop signs during the period when NCPD was in the process of hiring more school crossing guards on "little used crossings". It was a bitch when on the REAL cold days they signed off sick and you had to cover the crossing, BUT STAY ON THEIR as per the D.O. if they were short of foot men to cover the crossing. The more services we provided, the more the public expected. When the freakin signs were frozen to the ground, we had to pry them loose from the frozen ground with the PD, with a "gentle" push……….
Some more memories

I remember both types. The roll out signs were chained to a pole and the fold up signs were held closed with a padlock. God forbid you forgot to put them out or worse, put them out on a school holiday. Do they still use them?

I think all of the folding signs got phased out. There weren't any around 12 years ago when I left. The way things are going with hiring lately, I expect to see roll out Cops pretty soon though....
