UNIONDALE - Members of Nassau’s Corrections Department attended a Nassau County Interim Finance Authority meeting Monday to ask when the county’s three-year wage freeze will be lifted.
As News 12 has reported, the county recently gave out about $800,000 total in wage increases to appointed and non-union workers. NIFA has ordered the county to rescind or “claw back” those raises because the watchdog group says the county can’t afford it.
The corrections workers say that they deserve raises, too, as the cost of living continues to rise.
“My members wanted to come here to this meeting not as a protest, but as a wake-up call to the county,” said John Jaronczyk, of the Corrections Officers Benevolent Association.
NIFA originally put the wage freeze in place at the request of Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano, who needed to save money in the budget.
The county executive has argued that many of the workers who received raises had more responsibilities due to a large amount of cuts.

Not a bad idea, how about packing the rooms and doors at every open Legislature, Nifa and any other committee meetings? Make the powers that be uncomfortable, ask questions and put pressure on them. Someone needs to start something going, we had a good showing at last union meeting, let's take the crowd to the people that have the power to fix this freeze..... Standing idle will solve nothing

PBA is still working on it. Everyday these people meet with NIFA and get no results. All we hear is " IT'S LOOKING GOOD. WE ARE WORKING ON IT". PBA have been working on this deal from last three years and I dont think so they will able to come to any agreement or able to get us anywhere.
Send our lawsuit to a wrong court to begin with. How PBA can screw that bad. Keep buying time-time and time.
some of us have to eat peanut butter sandwich for dinner.
And please take the golves off this time and stand against NIFA like other union did.

The last deal was made to clear out the senior guys eligible to retire. Here's your money now go away. You'd see 300 guys retire this year.

Minimum manning If you want these negotiations to move along, tell the union to negotiate with minimum manning or post consolidation in patrol. The precinct consolidation was the pre-cursor to the above. Health has been addressed, time off and vacation picks as well. Staffing is the last and biggest cost saver. IMO, the union is too proud to give up posts it took them years to create. However, they must put pride aside in order to protect their members interest at this place in time. Officer safety is between you and the union. The elimination of a post per precinct in some, but not all commands, might be an option worth exploring more aggressively. GL
