I am currently a nyc police officer with 6 years on the job. I've finished processing for Nassau county and I am waiting for this contract to be done. Does anyone have any good idea of a time frame or what is being proposed? I would appreciate only truth and not useless humors and shvt stirring comments. Thanks be safe everyone .

As of right now nifa supposedly has the pbas new proposal and we are waiting on nifa to get back. It has been pretty much a jerk job since this process started 3 years ago. No one can tell you what is in the proposal regarding new classes except that it will entail a new pay scale for you, longer time to get to top pay and new tier which is tier 6. Except that if u were hired under a different tier in the city u will be able to keep that tier as far as I understand. There are a few guys from the last Nassau class that had city time and have their papers to go in to go back if that tells u something. If you are able to afford going from 90k to 34k and remaining frozen then come on over, if you enjoy living at the poverty line we welcome you. No one even knows if this proposal gets new hires through steps. Politics here is worse than in the city. Think long and hard before you put your career on hold.

The job you wished to jump over to, the dream of working in Nassau, is DEAD. Stay where you are... Put in some work, make some connections and go to a good detail or study. The ONLY perks of this job over yours is the chart, and the commute (depending on where you live/work). Not trying to be negative, just being a realist. You've been warned. Even if a "deal" is accepted, you and your benefits are on the negotiation table. Stay put! Be safe...

If a deal is cut or we win the lawsuit on the grounds that are in state court now you will be frozen again after a step or two. Many guys read the papers and see guys making $200K and think it's a no brainer. The truth is you will probably never get there.

I did 9 yrs in city & 7 here & it's worst decision I ever made. I never heard of nifa though so at time it seemed like a no brainer...guys from last class are going back to city as their papers are already in...sure schedule is great but that doesn't pay the bills. Lawsuit will most likely be years & years away with appeals etc. And we have been waiting 3 years for a deal. Even w a deal, there will be another freeze and new guys will most likely be frozen way under city top pay. It's a shame bc I would love for more city guys who know what they are doing to come over but I'm just telling the truth. I never saw any of the good days here. And this job is dead. Great job for all of the top pay guys though. Missed the boat!

It's too bad you took the CoE from the county. If you happened to take the last test by chance try to get a village job.

Yea i agree unfortunately with most posts on here about coming over to ncpd. You really do need to evaluate the pros and cons with job you have already. If you work in a decent pct and your commute isnt too bad then stay. I know city cops though are capped at 30 or so hours per month OT. I dont know if you work days or nights so at top pay in the city on dayshift with little ot might be reason to consider NCPD. Plus DeBlasio is a bleeding heart liberal but if he continues to pay raises then stay. Here Mangano will never do anything to get rid of Nifa and make no mistake hates hiring anybody in a union. If you take the job here you most likely will work in the 5th or 3rd pct. yes OT will be real good for a few more years but you pay will be frozen solid indefinitely. DO NOT put faith in Jimmy Carver to fight for you or the media or anybody because it simply will not happen. If you can wait for all political leaders in Nassau to be out in 4 years then come but if not please do not make a mistake and come here..... Its just simply too risky. At least where you are you have job security!!! I hope this helped

Thanks for the info fellas. I actually just passed the sgt exam and will prob be promoted in 2 yrs or so. I also took the last test for Nassau and got a 93. I'm hoping for a village this time. I could have had freeport or rvc but I signed the coe 1 day prior to getting those letters. Would I have to repeat the whole process again ? Does anyone know?

What's going on is 3 years later and we're still in the exact same place
Frozen in pay "Negotiating" Phase 1 of a lawsuit

IF the galatic powers that be work a deal out that deal will only be four years out. Nifa can only work in 4 year increments. The fourth step as it stands now is 79,000. With our current contract that amount was suppose to increase by 1% every year. As previously mentioned those steps are up for negotiation in whatever crock pot deal the chefs at nifa feel like serving up. If you take this job there are so many variables outside your control that looking back years from now there is no way of telling if it was the best or worst decision you ever made. There may never be a deal. Many of us feel we have a strong case and would rather see us as a union go to war and ride this out till we win. Some feel they would rather gamble less and make a deal. The lawsuit will only apply retroactively to day one of the freeze till date of a deal. In four years will the county be financial viable? Will nifa still be here and refreeze us, ie. you with four years on? No way to tell unless you have a time machine. many years from now you might be a city sergeant regretting turning this down or you could be here regretting not staying in the city. That's life though. Your in the casino brother and no one could tell you how much to lay down on red or black except you. Your age, living arrangements and home life are the only things that will effect if you can afford to gamble or not. Good luck brother.

Inthebusiness that was probably the best written answer I've seen so far. I'm in the same boat and I know there are a lot of guys regretting making the move but I also talk to guys who left who absolutely love the job they just don't like the nonsense politics. When it comes down to it it's something my wife and I are going to have to make a decision on and the I'm going to have to live with my decision . I still can't believe that cops would be sitting three years frozen still talking About how this shvt is going to end but I'll be patient. As far the rest of you go I wish the best in this whether I take the job or not nobody on the job deserves this. Be safe and good luck
