Inthebusiness that was probably the best written answer I've seen so far. I'm in the same boat and I know there are a lot of guys regretting making the move but I also talk to guys who left who absolutely love the job they just don't like the nonsense politics. When it comes down to it it's something my wife and I are going to have to make a decision on and the I'm going to have to live with my decision . I still can't believe that cops would be sitting three years frozen still talking About how this shvt is going to end but I'll be patient. As far the rest of you go I wish the best in this whether I take the job or not nobody on the job deserves this. Be safe and good luck When it comes down to it Im confident in saying this is still a great job! Im stuck in steps and aggravated with all the BS thats going on including loosing a ton of confidence in it getting resolved in a timely fashion! All that being said if you could afford to come over by all means! I think its a good thing to have the experience of guys who were on the city job mixed in with guys who haven't done the job before! Stay safe and good luck its not an easy decision jumping into the unknown.

Must be only place where cops hate other cops...great job...I'm struggling to keep my house...great job. City guy from last class officially resigned yesterday to go back to city...great job!

Im not here to start with you buddy. Im stuck in this also. Had to sell my house etc.... Same spot as you. In a shvt time I try to find a bit of hope. And it is a good job! If you don't like it leave i don't know what else to say. Im entitled to my opinion. I have tons of friends on the city job and believe it or not as much as u may think it sucks there is still an allure to come work here! This isn't a pissing match and I'm sorry what you are going through. We are in shvt times right now and I know there is no choice for it to get better but will take time....

Def not starting with you bro. The question was asked about what is going on from a city guy & I'm just trying to speak the truth. You had to sell your house. Others of us are losing ours. I can't say that it is a good when that is happening. Everyone is divided and frozen on different pay scales. With the last deal that almost went through, now the 05 class is divided from the 07 & 08 classes. He'll there was almost a fight at last open meeting. Not good times.

anyone who says this job is not better then being in the city has never worked in the city.. the city is terrible, the bosses are out to get you, they will never have your back, you are pressured to get numbers, there are foot posts, most people in the city hate cops, the areas are awful, you have to go to the precinct everyday and have rollcall, you have to work almost 100 days more per year... do you need me to go on? ... the only bad thing about this job is the pay freeze which is terrible but other then that it is not comparable...

I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure the 2007 class makes NYPD base.

they do... thats why its comical, they dont even make more money while frozen, once we are unfrozen which will happen eventually its like night and day.. please dont ever compare the city to nassau ever again.. there is a reason why nypd lieutenants have left the city... the only guys who should be saying anything about leaving the city job are the guys stuck at 34k and thats only because they are almost welfare eligible

The lowest is the Sept 2008 class which is around 73k and dont pay into pension. The nov 07 class is at 79k.
Base pay for the city is 76k..Plus u pay into pension so deduct about 5k
NCPD works 1856 hours a year the the city works 2088 a year to make less money. work 232 less hours a year with NCPD and you go to work nearly 100 time less a year. Plus you have more vacation/personal time off.
The city sucks. NCPD is way better. The freeze sucks, not the job.

It just makes me scratch my head when I see guys saying they lost a million dollars coming here. You can't blame anyone for money you lost prior to the freeze you knew what the pay scale was be for you left. Don't get me wrong we are all getting anally fisted here but if you gave me a choice of this job or the city at the same pay the decision is pretty easy.

Jan 07 class...and I don't see your point. I didn't have roll call in years. I got myself into a detail & had weekends off but that is neither here or there. I took out loans & cashed out my pension to pay my mortgage to transfer here. I still have outstanding loans & had to take out new ones. So my step is currently what an NYPD cop makes. What does that mean? Maybe you guys somehow skipped the 34k step, 45k step and so on and you are fortunate not to be in debt. I have lost a ton of money...I based my decisions on a contract & steps that have been unfulfilled...and even though I worked my way into a detail in city and liked it, I'm not comparing the two jobs. Of course commute is better but it comes down to money. Again, how can I tell this person asking what is going on that it is a great job when he will be frozen indefinitely, and even with a deal, frozen again.

I honestly feel the fact I live in Nassau the chart the quality of life and the fact you get treated like an adult Is why I'm considering taking the job. Of course I want something to get done and I understand the possibility of being refrozen but if I can get to pay comparable with the city then I'll take it. I'll just have to see what they come up with

I respect that patrol guy. I guess the big question for you would be if you can live on a 34k salary for many years to come. There does not seem to be a deal that is close & the lawsuits will take years and there is no guarantee that we will win. Good luck
