Jan 07 class...and I don't see your point. I didn't have roll call in years. I got myself into a detail & had weekends off but that is neither here or there. I took out loans & cashed out my pension to pay my mortgage to transfer here. I still have outstanding loans & had to take out new ones. So my step is currently what an NYPD cop makes. What does that meian? Maybe you guys somehow skipped the 34k step, 45k step and so on and you are fortunate not to be in debt. I have lost a ton of money...I based my decisions on a contract & steps that have been unfulfilled...and even though I worked my way into a detail in city and liked it, I'm not comparing the two jobs. Of course commute is better but it comes down to money. Again, how can I tell this person asking what is going on that it is a great job when he will be frozen indefinitely, and even with a deal, frozen again. What I am saying is the 34K step and the 45K step were not a surprise you knew you were taking pay cut to come here. I am also not saying that you didn't plan your life according to what we were supposed to get. We all agree that the freeze F'ed up peoples lives big time. What I am saying is I hear guys saying I left the city and I am out 700K. The years you made 34k and 45k had nothing to do with NIFA.

I'm new to this forum as I didn't even know it existed till recently...as a prior city guy who was a boss I am stuck in steps as well. I actually loved the city job as a cop as I also worked my way into a detail. As a boss I didn't like it as much bc of the politics. I decided to transfer here to better the life of my family. To whomever said the job is divided and there isn't unity here, I have to agree. There was almost a fight in my precinct a couple of weeks ago. And that was between guys stuck in steps. A 2005 class member was pissed that the other classes were against nifa's last proposal. I do not think I need to explain the division of top pay members compared to the 1% members. I think guys are missing the point if this is a good job or not. If nifa never existed, then yes this is a great job. But they do exist and we are living this nightmare. I for one have been trying to sell my house and downsize out east. To the person who stated that the city guys that transferred here have not lost money, I do not understand that logic. To the person who stated that guys stuck in steps are at least making what city cops make, again I do not understand that logic. We came here to be making a lot more than that & yes we knew about the low salary in steps but we were willing to sacrifice to get to the light at the end of the tunnel. I do not see that light. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. My honest opinion is that I cannot understand someone from the city taking this job under these circumstances. If a deal was in place, then that is a different story because even with another freeze possibly looming, you will at least know where you will be potentially stuck at. But right now, as the guys from the last class are finding out the hard way, you will be stuck at $34,000 till who knows when.

anyone who says this job is not better then being in the city has never worked in the city.. the city is terrible, the bosses are out to get you, they will never have your back, you are pressured to get numbers, there are foot posts, most people in the city hate cops, the areas are awful, you have to go to the precinct everyday and have rollcall, you have to work almost 100 days more per year... do you need me to go on? ... the only bad thing about this job is the pay freeze which is terrible but other then that it is not comparable... I guess it all depends on where you worked, who you worked for and what your chart was. While its true many bosses drank the cool aide many did not. Foot posts, strange that's where I actually learned to be a cop. People hate cops everywhere unfortunately the city is concentrated and the hate is magnified. Roll call and locker rooms keeps guys much more honest amongst themselves. I guess its all up to the individual. However one thing you can not say to guys who have left and are winding down their careers is anything about the money lost, especially when it comes to the pension. I made $120k in 2006 that's a $60k pension plus 12k variable for $72,000 in pension. Almost 8 years later I'm lucky if I make $105. Coming up on 20 years it's starting to get scary.

I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure the 2007 class makes NYPD base. not everyone was making base pay cops salary, nor were they living in their mothers basement. Many had homes with wive's and children and still don't make what they did. True it was our choice to come here but it's magnified when you are making less now then when you were 7 years ago.

It just makes me scratch my head when I see guys saying they lost a million dollars coming here. You can't blame anyone for money you lost prior to the freeze you knew what the pay scale was be for you left. Don't get me wrong we are all getting anally fisted here but if you gave me a choice of this job or the city at the same pay the decision is pretty easy. We took this job based on the contract we signed, based on top pay, based on making the money back we lost by coming here in the first place. There comes a point of diminishing returns and many are at it. I've personally lost $300k plus by making the switch, now had we gone through steps and were where we should be that number would be closer to $200k, which would be recoverable long term. However losing 50k plus a year due to the illegal wage freeze my hopes of breaking even are over, and is scratch my head when I hear guys say "I scratch my head when I see guys saying they lost a million dollars coming here" it's all in the eye of the beholder.
