You most certainly can, I came to the county from a Nassau village. Off the same list? As I understood it, it had to be off of two separate exams like OTJrook said. I never said it was off the same list.

Back in the day in the Sixth, we had one guy who had been a Plandome Village PD PO who instantly became a Nassau PO when Plandome PD disbanded and Nassau took over. It is part of NYS Civil Service Law. I forget his name, nice guy. FYI wow didn't think an affluent area like that would have their own PD disband. I guess it can happen to any of these villages today considering it could happen back then. Some of those cops who got laid off in old Brookville had a lot of time on the job and had to start all over again with salary and seniority if they took jobs with new villages in nassau. When I was still on the "big job" I had an interview with Mill Neck PD on a Friday, I forget the year, maybe 1990. The following Monday they were disbanded and all civil service cops were absorbed by Old Brookville PD. Anyone not hired off a civil service list was let go. This is the reason I waited it out for Nassau.

Thought mill neck was the village that had mostly part trimmers to avoid having to hire off the civil service lists

Mill neck only had two full timers, the Chief and one P.O. They were the only certified Cops on the job. The rest of them, including their only Sergeant, were part time and were not certified Cops. That's why the State forced them to disband. The Chief retired and their only certified Cop was hired by OBPD. He narrowly missed getting laid off when Muttontown broke away.

Looks like Mill neck PD disbanded in 1991. So that cop would of had about 20 years OTJ when Old Brookville PD laid off the 12 cops. Crazy to think with that much time on he almost got let go.

Backin the day, most of the cops at Jones Beach were teachers on their summer vacations working during the summer season. Wonder when they stopped useing them ?

Yeah it is but OBPD is a small job. They also don't have 60ths. In order to get the enhanced pension they have to do the full 35. It was also a good job with a light work load and good bosses. I almost took that job in 1973. If I had, I would have retired in 2008.

Old Brookville actually does have the 1/60ths now but oyster bay cove does not. Old Brookville had about 35 cops and bosses before they laid off. There's depts like Kensington, great neck estates, and centre island where the whole job is less than 13 total. From what I read on an earlier post old brookville is also 13 years to top pay now.

Good. I'm glad to hear they finally got it. They didn't have it when I left. All of the guys I knew in OBPD were aces. Their last Chief and their current Chief are especially great guys.

Lynbrook seems to be one of the best. Not a slow dept but also not crazy busy. They also have the 1/60th. I remember reading about them being one of the highest paid as well.

Yes they do have the 1/60ths but they also fall under a 25 year retirement plan. So they get it from 25yrs to 32 years. years as opposed to a job like ncpd where you get the 1/60ths after 20 until 32years. Big difference. Plus Lynbrook works more hours a year that the 1856 chart orange.
