Lynbrook seems to be one of the best. Not a slow dept but also not crazy busy. They also have the 1/60th. I remember reading about them being one of the highest paid as well. Yes they do have the 1/60ths but they also fall under a 25 year retirement plan. So they get it from 25yrs to 32 years. years as opposed to a job like ncpd where you get the 1/60ths after 20 until 32years. Big difference. Plus Lynbrook works more hours a year that the 1856 chart orange. They work the equivalent of 17 extra days a year which they get paid for. When Nassau went to only 4 midnights Lynbrook stayed at 5 but they get paid for those extra hours. When they went to 12 hour tours they also kept the extra days in their chart and get paid for them. And that pay adds up.

And that pay adds up. if you work those 17 extra tours a year on a job that works less hours yearly your making 1.5x of your pay rate. In the end it would come out to the same amount of hours for more $$ on a job like NCPD where your working 1856.

True, if working those hours on OT, it would certainly be more. The county is swimming in OT now (and probably will be for awhile), but it helps when OT is hard to come by. With Villages yes, there is the small potential for them to go belly up, but their salaries are not on the front page of Newsday every other week like the county, and if liked by the local government, the contracts are easier to settle overall. I would take whatever job is offered first, and call it a day. Any department in Nassau County is a home run.

Many here have learned that planning doesn't always pan out! YOU PLAN AND GOD LAUGHS.

17 extra tours on straight time... WTF! Look at the bright side... 17 extra at-bats for a last minute arrest. When life gives you lemons, you should make lemonaide.

The county is swimming in OT now (and probably will be for awhile). I think many people are seriously overestimating how long the OT boon is going to last.

It will drop once this new class comes out. Sometime in oct or nov. But come the new year ppl are going to b retiring. They need to hire a lot more ppl to really cut ot and they haven't really been doing it. And now Nassau has to worry about new hires taking others jobs. Ot will prob n hear for a bit longer. Maybe not to this extreme level though

Actually they have a different system than most. They have unlimited sick, but you also get 12 days a year put into a bank and for each day you go sick that year one day is taken away from that back. Each year whatever is left from those 12 days gets put on the books and you start afresh. And the end of your career you get what has been built up. But if you have say 50 days saved up and you go sick 30 days in one shot you only lose the 12 days for that year nothing from the previous years.
